Slug Frequency Prediction Model for Fluid Flow in Flowline Bends

SPE Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition, 2021
Abstract The prediction of slug frequency for two-phase slug flow during multiphase transportation of oil reservoir productions is crucial in the design of slug controllers for petroleum processing installations. Mechanistic based slug prediction models have not had much successful application due to the difficulty in modelling the non ...

Transmission of high frequency sound waves through a slug flow jet

6th Aeroacoustics Conference, 1980
An analysis has been performed of sound waves which propagate in a pipe with gas flow. At the pipe exit these waves are partially reflected and the remainder are diffracted. The analysis is carried out by resolving the sound at the exit into its Fourier components and then continuing the solution, which is a combination of elementary plane waves ...

Effect of slug flow frequency on the mechanical stress behavior of pipelines

International Journal of Pressure Vessels and Piping, 2017
Slug flow is a prevalent and undesirable multiphase flow regime which occurs in many industrial processes, causing time varying stresses in pipes and supports and consequently causes structural fatigue damage and failure.

Sensitivity Analysis of the Wall Shear Model to the Correlations for Frequency and Slug Holdup in the Gas-Liquid Slug Flow in Pipes

Advanced Materials Research, 2015
The one-dimensional mixture model efficiently predicts gas-liquid flows dominated by gravity force. The advantages of the mixture model are the absence of interfacial terms and the reduced number of transport equations, but its weakness lies on the constitutive laws to predict the wall shear force of a gas-liquid mixture.

Dual-Frequency Severe Slugging in Horizontal Pipeline-Riser Systems

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 2012
A new type of severe slugging is found that can occur in two-phase flow of gas and liquid in pipeline-riser systems. This instability, which will be referred to as dual-frequency severe slugging (DFSS), generates a different class of flow oscillations compared to the classical severe slugging cycle, having a dominant single frequency that is commonly ...

Numerical simulation of slug flow in horizontal pipes and comparison with slug frequency prediction methods from literature

2023
In scope of a European project conducted by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, OpenFOAM is utilized to simulate slug flow. Because the slug frequency is an important parameter to predict corrosion, erosion and pressure drop in pipe flow, numerous efforts to predict the slug frequency have been made in the past by various authors.

A Simple Technique for Determining Slug Frequency Using Differential Pressure

Journal of Energy Resources Technology, 2008
An experiment was performed to study air∕water slug frequency in a horizontal clear pipe by means of visual inspection and differential pressure measurement in the range of 0–1∕s. Results showed that a simplified model for slug pressure drop allowed the differential pressure data to compare favorably with visual observations for slug frequency.

The Effect of Slug Frequency on Corrosion in High Pressure, Inclined Pipelines

CORROSION 1996, 1996
Abstract The effect of inclination on flow regimes and individual flow characteristics has been studied and the subsequent effect on corrosion has also been examined. Experiments were carried out in high pressure. 10 cm diameter, inclinable flow loops using brine, one oil with water cuts of 100, 80, and 60%, using carbon dioxide gas at ...

Frequency and development of slugs in a horizontal pipe at large liquid flows

International Journal of Multiphase Flow, 2006
Abstract The generation of slugs was studied for air–water flow in horizontal 0.0763 m and 0.095 m pipes. The emphasis was on high liquid rates (uLS ⩾ 0.5 m/s) for which slugs are formed close to the entry and the time intervals between slugs are stochastic.
