The slug parasitic nematode Phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita associates with complex and variable bacterial assemblages that do not affect its virulence

open access: closedJournal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2010
Phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita is a nematode parasite of slugs that is commercially reared in monoxenic culture with the bacterium Moraxella osloensis and sold as a biological molluscicide. However, its bacterial associations when reared in vivo in slugs are unknown. We show that when reared in vivo in slugs, P.

Re-description of the slug-parasitic nematode Alloionema appendiculatum Schneider, 1859 (Rhabditida: Alloionematidae)

Nematology, 2015
Alloionema appendiculatumis a common juvenile parasite of many terrestrial molluscs. Its third-stage juveniles (dauers) invade the foot muscle of snails and slugs and develop into fourth-stage juveniles, which then leave the host. Later they mature and reproduce in the soil. A population ofA.

Quantification of the slug parasitic nematode Phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita from soil samples using real time qPCR

open access: closedInternational Journal for Parasitology, 2006
Phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita is a nematode parasite that infects and kills several species of slugs. The nematode is produced commercially as a biological control agent for slug pests of agriculture and horticulture. Given the difficulties of distinguishing this species from other nematode species in soil samples, very little is known about its ...

Phasmarhabditis bohemica n. sp. (Nematoda: Rhabditidae), a slug-parasitic nematode from the Czech Republic

Nematology, 2017
Phasmarhabditis bohemica n. sp. is described and illustrated from the body of Deroceras reticulatum from the village of Chelčice, the Czech Republic. Morphological and molecular data showed that the new isolate is close to other species of Phasmarhabditis, particularly P. californica and P. papillosa. Females are characterised by a body length of 2079 (

Is Phasmarhabditis papillosa (Nematoda: Rhabditidae) a possible biological control agent against the Spanish slug, Arion vulgaris (Gastropoda: Arionidae)?

, 2020
In the period from August to October 2018, 140 specimens of the Spanish slug, Arion vulgaris, were collected from Podbrezje, Slovenia. Slugs were dissected and examined for the presence of parasitic nematodes within the cadavers.

Susceptibility and immune response of Deroceras reticulatum, Milax gagates and Limax pseudoflavus exposed to the slug parasitic nematode Phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2008
We exposed three slug species (Deroceras reticulatum (Müller), Milax gagates (Draparnaud) and Limax pseudoflavus L.) to the parasitic nematode Phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita Schneider. P. hermaphrodita was able to cause mortality and feeding inhibition to both D. reticulatum and M. gagates but did not negatively affect L. pseudoflavus.

Susceptibility of indigenous UK earthworms and an invasive pest flatworm to the slug parasitic nematodePhasmarhabditis hermaphrodita

open access: closedBiocontrol Science and Technology, 2005
Abstract We exposed five earthworm species, one flatworm species and the susceptible slug Deroceras reticulatum to the recommended field application rate and five times this rate of Phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita. P. hermaphrodita caused significant mortality to D. reticulatum at the recommended rate and five times the recommended rate.

Application of parasitic nematodes for slugs control in lettuce

2010

Root-Emitted Volatile Organic Compounds from Daucus carota Modulate Chemotaxis in Phasmarhabditis and Oscheius Nematodes

Agronomy
Root-emitted volatile organic compounds (VOCs) play a critical role in below-ground ecological interactions by mediating communication between plants, pests, and their natural enemies.
