Short-term sequestration of slurry-derived carbon into particle size fractions of a temperate grassland soil

open access: yes, 2004
Surface application of animal wastes in intensive grassland systems has caused growing environmental problems during the last decade and, therefore, increasing public and scientific concern.

Impact of PVDF Homo and Copolymer on Thiophosphate Solid Electrolyte Characteristics and Comprehensive Bulk‐To‐Surface Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study examines how a PVDF‐like binder affects the argyrodite Li6PS5Cl electrolyte properties. Using an approach that combines bulk and surface characterization with electrochemistry, we found a chemical interaction between Li6PS5Cl and PVDF, resulting in partial chlorine substitution by fluorine and slightly reduced ionic conductivity.

The Slurry Wall at the 9-11 Museum

open access: yes, 2014
As an innovative feat of engineering and construction, the slurry wall was a marvel of its time. This great subterranean wall surrounded the WTC site and was a barrier that held back the waters of the Hudson River thus allowing for the construction of ...

Odour and ammonia emissions following the spreading of anaerobically-digested pig slurry on grassland

open access: yes, 1990
Anaerobically digested and untreated pig slurries were spread on grassland plots and measurements of odour and ammonia emissions made using a systems of small wind tunnels. Digestion reduced total solids (TS), total nitrogen (TN) and volatile fatty acid (

Pyrolysis Induced Interphase and Structural Stabilization of Silicon‐Tin Disulfide/PAN Composite Electrode Materials for Li‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
A Si and SnS2 based dual‐alloy anode material for metal‐ion battery applications with improved structural, interfacial and electrochemical properties is synthesized via a single‐step solid‐state pyrolysis process. During the pyrolysis step, SnS2 and Si are embedded in a porous, carbonized PAN‐based matrix, which is electronically and ionically ...

Slurry transport properties of graded coal waste [PDF]

open access: yes
"The Bureau of Mines conducted laboratory tests to determine the slurry transport and deposition properties of coal waste. A 188.5- Ft pipe test loop was constructed with instruments to measure density, flow, and power and discharge, suction, and ...

Long-term release of carbon from grassland soil amended with different slurry particle size fractions: a laboratory incubation study

open access: yes, 2011
Application of animal manure to agricultural soils enhances both native soil carbon (C) and overall (native soil C and added C) respiration. CO2 effluxes were measured in a laboratory incubation study for 1465 days after the application of different ...

3D Printed PEDOT:PSS‐Based Lattice Pressure Sensors With Tunable Electromechanical Response

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene): polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS)‐based architected lattices are fabricated via single‐step Digital Light Processing (DLP) printing for tunable pressure sensing. Structural design variations allow precise control of sensitivity and range, while integrated conductivity eliminates post‐processing.

Recycle of olive mill wastewater for fertigation after treatment in soil slurry reactor

open access: yes, 2005
OMW are rich in organic and mineral compounds that could be usefully recycled as fertilizers. Their high polyphenol content, however, can affect soil health because of the related microbial- and phyto-toxicity.

Effects of nitrification inhibitor and acid addition to cattle slurry on nitrogen losses and herbage yields

open access: yes, 1994
Cattle slurry was applied to grassland on two contrasting soils in autumn and spring between 1987 and 1990. Slurry was applied with or without the addition of acid, to lower the pH to 5.5, and, in autumn only, with or without a nitrification inhibitor ...
