Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Shear Banding in Time-Dependent Flows of Complex Fluids [PDF]
We explore theoretically the time-dependent rheological response of complex fluids to step stress, shear startup and strain ramp deformations. We study soft glassy materials and entangled polymeric materials above and below the glass transition using the

Experimental study of effect of wetting-drying path on small-strain shear modulus of silt
Natural soils are usually under unsaturated state, especially soils at shallow depths below ground. The small-strain shear modulus of unsaturated soil is an important parameter for predicting ground deformation and dynamic responses of earth structures ...

Creep‐Induced Microstructural Evolution in an A2‐B2 Superalloy
A 27.3Ta‐27.3Mo‐27.3Ti‐8Cr‐10Al (at.%) refractory high‐entropy alloy with precipitation‐strengthened A2‐B2 microstructure was studied by creep tests at 1030°C, which demonstrate a transition in deformation mechanisms in the range of 100–150 MPa applied stress. This is associated with changes in dislocation–precipitate interactions. Relevant deformation

Dynamic Properties of a Compacted Residual Soil from the West Indies
This paper presents a laboratory investigation of the strain-dependent cyclic properties of a compacted tropical residual soil as measured in a resonant column and cyclic triaxial testing program.

The prediction and back analysis of excavation behaviour in Oxford Clay. [PDF]
The work described in this thesis involved the prediction and back-analysis of ground movements and pore water pressures around a temporary excavation, lOm deep, 105m long and 35m wide (50m long and lOm wide at its base) in the heavily overconsolidated

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

Resonant Column Teston Dynamic Shear Modulus and Damping Ratio of the Remolded Red Clay
:In order to research the dynamic property of the remoulded red clay under small shear strain amplitude condition, through imposing torsional vibration and changing the driving frequency step by step on the soil column with certain humidity, density and ...
