Constitutive behavior of Port-Said Clay under seismic and small strain static conditions

open access: yesAin Shams Engineering Journal, 2018
Port-Said Clay is very soft to firm clay deposited in the delta of an old tributary of the Nile at the east of Port-Said, Egypt. Despite the detailed characterization carried out for Port-Said Clay, no tests were carried out to measure its seismic or ...

Effects of grain size distribution on the initial strain shear modulus of calcareous sand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The soil’s small strain shear modulus, Gmax or G0, is applied in dynamic behavior analyses and is correlated to other soil properties (density and void ratio) for predicting soil dynamic behavior under seismic loadings such as earthquakes, machinery or ...

Direct measurement of shear modulus at low frequencies and small strains

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2009
In many applications, one needs to measure elastic moduli of materials at low frequencies and small strains. With most techniques, such as ultrasonic pulse transmission or acoustic resonance, measurements are limited to a few discrete frequencies. These sound speed measurements are also indirect, since they involve density as well as elastic constants.

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Alignment and Nonlinear Elasticity in Biopolymer Gels

open access: yes, 2014
We present a Landau type theory for the non-linear elasticity of biopolymer gels with a part of the order parameter describing induced nematic order of fibers in the gel.

Additive Gaussian Process Regression for Predictive Design of High‐Performance, Printable Silicones

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A chemistry‐aware design framework for tuning printable polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for vat photopolymerization (VPP) is developed using additive Gaussian process (GP) modeling. Polymer network mechanics informs variable groupings, feasible formulation constraints, and interaction variables.

Determining Shrinkage Cracks Based on the Small-Strain Shear Modulus–Suction Relationship

open access: yesGeosciences, 2019
This research aims to propose the use of spectral analysis of surface wave (SASW) tests along with in-situ suction measurements for non-destructive determination of shrinkage cracks.

Effects of loading rate on SBPT responses of Zhanjiang structured clay

open access: yesRock and Soil Mechanics, 2021
The study on influence of loading rate on mechanical behavior of Zhanjiang clay, which is a kind of sensitive clay with high yield strength, could be noteworthy.

Nonlinear viscoelasticity of metastable complex fluids

open access: yes, 2006
Many metastable complex fluids such as colloidal glasses and gels show distinct nonlinear viscoelasticity with increasing oscillatory-strain amplitude; the storage modulus decreases monotonically as the strain amplitude increases whereas the loss modulus
