Etiology of Small Cell Lung Carcinoma
1985With regard to morphology, biology, and therapy it seems justified to consider small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) separately from the other main forms of lung carcinoma (squamous cell, adenocarcinoma, large cell). This is expressed by the rough division of lung cancers into the small cell and non-small-cell groups.

Most human malignant neoplasms show loss of primary cilia (PC). However, PC are known to be retained and involved in tumorigenesis in some types of neoplasms. The PC status in lung carcinomas remains largely uninvestigated. In this study, we comprehensively assessed the PC status in lung carcinomas.

Pathology of small cell carcinoma of the lung
Seminars in Oncology, 2003Small cell carcinoma of the lung is one of the major subtypes of primary lung cancer. It is a highly aggressive lethal neuroendocrine carcinoma. It is closely related to other neuroendocrine carcinomas of the lung, including carcinoid, atypical carcinoid, and large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma.

Giant cell formation in small cell carcinoma of the lung
Cancer, 1983Four patients with biopsy proven small cell carcinoma of the lung died rapidly following radiotherapy. At autopsy areas of prominent tumor giant cell formation were found at the primary site in all four and in the metastatic sites in three. Giant cell formation in a tumor may be from the development of another tumor, sublethal damage to the original ...

Histocompatibility antigens in small cell carcinoma of the lung
Cancer, 1984Fifty white patients with small cell carcinoma of the lung (SCCL) were typed for histocompatibility antigens (HLA) to assist in providing platelet support for intensive induction therapy. An analysis of the HLA types in this population was undertaken to determine if there was an influence of HLA type on this disease. Patients with the HLA-Bw44 (HLA-B12)

The fine structure of four small cell carcinomas of the lung is described. Cells from the tumor of one patient, who has a myasthenic syndrome, contained a well-developed, roughsurfaced endoplasmic reticulum and an enlarged Golgi apparatus. These were much less apparent in the three tumors unassociated with the myasthenic syndrome.

Small Cell Carcinoma of the Lung
2010Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is a malignant epithelial tumor that occurs almost exclusively in smokers. It accounts for approximately 13% of lung cancer diagnoses in the United States annually. For treatment planning, SCLC is divided into either limited stage disease (LS-SCLC- that is, disease is confined to the chest and can be encompassed within a ...

Small cell lung carcinoma represents less than twenty five percent of all lung cancers. Nevertheless, a lot of studies permitted to better define this cancer and to propose specific therapeutic approaches. Clinical symptoms, results and roles of chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery are discussed in this review.

In most of the cases, small cell lung cancer is diagnosed at the extensive disease stage. Regarding the micrometastatic process, it might be considered as a metastatic disease in almost all cases. Therefore, chemotherapy is the cornerstone of small cell lung cancer therapy. Cisplatin and VP-16-based combinations are recommended.

Small-Cell Carcinoma of the Lung: Therapeutic Management
Annals of Internal Medicine, 1978Although bronchogenic carcinoma generally remains a tumor resistant to treatment, marked progress in the therapy of the small-cell undifferentiated subtype has occurred in the past 5 years. Many aspects of its growth and metastatic spread are such that it is not satisfactorily treated surgically. However, it is sensitive to both radiation and a variety
