High‐Current‐Density Acidic CO2 Electroreduction to Formic Acid Enabled by Multiscale Microenvironment Regulation Over Defect‐Rich Sn/SnOx

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Acidic CO2 electroreduction to formic acid is enabled by integrating mixed Sn/SnOx nanoclusters, K+‐regulated interfacial solvation, and Janus wettability. Coordinated control of active sites, interfacial water, and gas‐liquid transport suppresses hydrogen evolution and delivers approximately 85% HCOOH Faradaic efficiency at 400 mA cm−2.

A Perspective on Small Μodular Reactors: A Case Study for Greece

open access: yesEast European Journal of Physics
Global efforts towards decarbonization are intensifying, but the transition to a green economy comes at a high cost, which some estimate to amount to approximately $3.5 trillion dollars annual investment, most of which is upfront.

Johnson Noise Thermometry for Advanced Small Modular Reactors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Temperature is a key process variable at any nuclear power plant (NPP). The harsh reactor environment causes all sensor properties to drift over time. At the higher temperatures of advanced NPPs the drift occurs more rapidly.

Nonlinear Quantum Effects Drive Grotthuss Proton Conduction in Structured Electrolytes Based on Deep Eutectic Solvents

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We demonstrate that the inverse relationship between viscosity and conductivity in structured electrolytes can be circumvented by leveraging their hydrogen bonding networks for Grotthuss proton transport. Using a mixture of imidazole and levulinic acid, we show that the existence of extended hydrogen‐bonded chains that can rapidly reorient result in ...

Prospects and Trends in the Development of Small Modular Nuclear Reactors

open access: yesEnergies
Small Modular Reactor (SMR) concepts have developed faster than anyone could have predicted even ten years ago. Over the next decade, it is highly likely that we will see the construction and the operation of multiple SMRs based on both third- and fourth-

Small Modular Nuclear Reactors (SMRs): Development of Small Nuclear Reactors (SMRs) to Supplement Power Needs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Small Modular Reactor (SMR) is a small nuclear reactor that can operate as part of or independently of the electrical grid system 100 to 1,000 times smaller than typical nuclear reactors Modular and easily transportable Reliable and operationally ...

Conjugated Polymer‐Microbe Interactions Trigger Regulatory Reprogramming for Enhanced Bioelectrocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Conjugated polymer‐supported bioelectrochemical systems are shown to enhance microbial electrosynthesis by triggering coordinated electrochemical, transcriptional, post‐transcriptional (sRNA), metabolic, and protein‐level responses. Integrated multi‐omics and electrochemical analyses reveal selective physiological remodeling associated with improved ...

Small Modular Reactor based on NuScale with Thorium base

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Radiation Sciences
This study proposes a novel approach to enhance the NuScale Small Modular Reactor (SMR) by incorporating mixed uranium-thorium (U-Th) oxide fuel, thereby increasing U-233 production, improving fuel use, and reducing radioactive waste.
