Forecasting shifts in habitat suitability across the distribution range of a temperate small pelagic fish under different scenarios of climate change [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Climate change often leads to shifts in the distribution of small pelagic fish, likely by changing the matchmismatch dynamics between these sensitive species within their environmental optima.

Use of the cast net for monitoring fish status in reservoirs distributed in the Korean peninsula

open access: yesJournal of Ecology and Environment, 2015
Reservoirs consist of two different environments, the littoral and the pelagic zone, and different fishing gear is commonly used in each zone—gill nets in the pelagic zone and electrofishing in the littoral zone.

Accommodating dynamic oceanographic processes and pelagic biodiversity in marine conservation planning

open access: yes, 2011
Pelagic ecosystems support a significant and vital component of the ocean's productivity and biodiversity. They are also heavily exploited and, as a result, are the focus of numerous spatial planning initiatives.

Patterns of Distribution and Spatial Indicators of Ecosystem Change Based on Key Species in the Southern Benguela.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Several commercially and ecologically important species in the southern Benguela have undergone southward and eastward shifts in their distributions over previous decades, most notably the small pelagic fish sardine Sardinops sagax and anchovy Engraulis ...

Modelling European small pelagic fish distribution: Methodological insights [PDF]

open access: yesEcological Modelling, 2020
The distribution of marine organisms is strongly influenced by climatic gradients worldwide. The ecological niche (sensu Hutchinson) of a species, i.e. the combination of environmental tolerances and resources required by an organism, interacts with the environment to determine its geographical range.

Photothermal‐Activated Antibacterial Amyloid‐Polyphenol‐Iron Hydrogels for Synergistic Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We report a thermally triggered supramolecular hydrogel (LTFe) formed by Fe3+ and tannic acid on lysozyme amyloid fibrils. Fe3+ enables rapid gelation and photothermal transduction with an efficiency of 88.56%. The LTFe hydrogel exhibits excellent biocompatibility, potent antibacterial activity against E. coli and S.

AI–Guided 4D Printing of Carnivorous Plants–Inspired Microneedles for Accelerated Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents an artificial intelligence (AI)‐guided 4D‐printed microneedle platform inspired by carnivorous plants for wound healing. A thermo‐responsive shape memory polymer enables body temperature–triggered self‐coiling for autonomous wound closure.

Selective Growth of Bulk‐Like Perovskite in Plasmonic Nanoholes for Enhanced Two‐Photon‐Excited Emission

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Vacuum‐assisted capillary infiltration delivers perovskite precursors deep into gold nanohole plasmonic hotspots, enabling uniform in situ crystallization of bulk‐like CsPbBr3 within confined cavities. Verified by peel‐off and structural analyses, the hybrid platform shows simulated |E/E₀| ≈2.80 at 800 nm and ∼40‐fold two‐photon absorption‐enhanced ...

Small pelagic fish: new frontiers in ecological research [PDF]

open access: yesMarine Ecology Progress Series
Populations of small pelagic fish (SPF), such as sardines, anchovies and herrings, support some of the largest marine fisheries globally and are critical for trophic transfer in large marine ecosystems and food security, particularly in low- to medium-income countries.
