The Future of Small Modular Reactors

2017
The small size and the modular structure of the SMRs make them suitable to small electric grids. For this reason, they are a good option for locations that cannot accommodate large-scale nuclear power plants. The modular construction process associated to SMRs would make them more affordable by reducing capital costs and construction times.

An Innovative Design of a Small Reactor

Journal of Chemical Education, 1997
Design of a small-volume glass reactor which affords effective gas bubbling simultaneously with mechanical stirring is described. Innovative modification and incorporation of an ordinary hypodermic glass syringe in the design make the fabrication very simple and inexpensive.

On the safety goal for small reactors

Nuclear Engineering and Design, 1988
A discussion of some features of present KWU reactors in the standard range of 900 MW to 1300 MW give clear hints, that better safety can't yet be the goal of building small reactors. But if smaller reactors have the potential to reach safety with more simple design features this should be used to reach economical advantages.

Briefing: Small modular reactors

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Energy, 2013
The worldwide need for energy, and particularly energy that does not generate carbon dioxide, has led to the possibility of nuclear reactors being installed in countries that previously have not used them. In many of these countries the electrical grid system is limited and would not be robust enough for the large power reactors currently under ...

Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)

Abstract Chapter 23 discusses the rapidly evolving world of small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs), which are seen as a potential solution to the global energy crisis and climate change. The chapter reviews the advantages of SMRs, including suitability for factory construction, manageable costs, shorter production times, and inherent ...
