Evaluation of deformation-induced anisotropy for plastically deformed polycarbonate

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2021
In the present study, the deformation-induced anisotropic mechanical characteristics and the strain distribution are evaluated from the specimens cut from the necking part of polycarbonate.

Small Strain Behavior of Geomaterials: Modelling of Strain Rate Effects

open access: yesSoils and Foundations, 1997
ABSTRACT Experimental results for sand, gravel, sedimentary soft rock and stiff clay are presented which show that even at small strain levels (less than about 0.001%), these geomaterials exhibit nearly linear elastic behavior, but creep deformation and stress relaxation are not negligible.

Small-Strain Stress-Strain Properties of Expanded Polystyrene Geofoam

open access: yesSoils and Foundations, 2008
ABSTRACT The small-strain stress-strain properties of expanded polystyrene (EPS) geofoam with densities of about 20 kg/m3 and 30 kg/m3 were evaluated by laboratory unconfined compression tests on specimens of 75 mm in diameter and 150 mm in height.

Consistent Equations of Nonlinear Rectilinear Laminated Bars Theory in Quadratic Approximation [PDF]

open access: yesУчёные записки Казанского университета: Серия Физико-математические науки, 2017
Two versions of one-dimensional equilibrium equations for rectilinear laminated bars on basis of S.P. Timoshenko's model subject to transversal compression for each layer and describing geometrical nonlinear deformation by arbitrary displacements and ...

Stretchable Strain Sensor with Small but Sufficient Adhesion to Skin

open access: yesSensors, 2023
Stretchable strain sensors that use a liquid metal (eutectic gallium–indium alloy; E-GaIn) and flexible silicone rubber (Ecoflex) as the support and adhesive layers, respectively, are demonstrated.

The Role of Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation in Ataxia‐Telangiectasia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Ataxia‐telangiectasia (A‐T) is a DNA repair disorder characterized by neurodegeneration, immunodeficiency, and cancer predisposition. Hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is an established therapy in related disorders such as Fanconi anemia (FA) and Nijmegen breakage syndrome (NBS), but its role in A‐T is unclear.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Vane Sensor System in Small Strain Oscillatroy Testing

open access: yesApplied Rheology, 2001
To overcome difficulties (slip, sample disturbance) associated with traditional sensors, a semi-empirical method was developed to allow the use of a 4-bladed vane sensor in small strain oscillatory testing.
