Smart cards: a design for the future
Journal of Information Technology, 1996A new smart card system, Vitesse, is outlined in design detail to meet many needs stemming from the current ability to manipulate information over the network medium. A new smart card operating system, object oriented in nature, is described in terms of a client/server architecture where clients (desktop computers) run front end applications and ...

Twofish is a 128-bit block cipher with a 128-, 192-, or 256-bit key. The algorithm was designed with smart cards in mind, and can be implemented on 8-bit CPUs with only 60 bytes of RAM. A variety of implementation options allows Twofish to encrypt and decrypt quicker if more RAM is available.

Multiapplication smart card: Towards an open smart card?
Information Security Technical Report, 2009Smart cards were invented four decades ago so as to keep data secrets and to process them secretly. Even though their main goal are still the same today, the smart cards have been subject to many evolutions at both their hardware and software levels. Indeed they have been the target of numerous attacks and new demands from the market.

Mechanising a Protocol for Smart Cards
2001Paulson's Inductive Approach for verifying traditional cryptographic protocols is tailored to those where agents make use of smart cards. An intruder can actively exploit other agents' cards, which can be stolen or cloned. The approach is demonstrated on the Shoup-Rubin protocol, which is modelled and verified thoroughly.

An open middleware for smart cards.
Comput. Syst. Sci. Eng., 2005This paper presents an open and modular middleware for smart cards, providing a simple abstraction of the device to application developers. The soft- ware is interoperable across multiple card devices, and portable across various open platforms. The architectural design is centred around the definition of a new API that allows protected access to the ...
