Impact and risk factors for skeletal muscle mass loss after hepatic resection in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesJGH Open, 2021
Background and Aim The aims of this study were to determine whether a postoperative decrease in skeletal muscle mass (SMM) after hepatic resection can predict long‐term outcomes in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and identify risk factors ...

Targeting PRKCN, an Essential Driver Orchestrating mTOR‐IRF4 Axis Independently of Kinase Activity, in Multiple Myeloma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Constitutive PRKCN expression is driven by super‐enhancers and modulated by NF‐κB signaling in multiple myeloma (MM). PRKCN activates mTORC1/2‐IRF4 signaling axis and favors tumor cell growth independently of its kinase activity. IRF4 reciprocally promotes PRKCN transcription, creating a feed‐forward loop.

Multifragmentation process for different mass asymmetry in the entrance channel around the Fermi energy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The influence of the entrance channel asymmetry upon the fragmentation process is addressed by studying heavy-ion induced reactions around the Fermi energy. The data have been recorded with the INDRA 4pi array.

Exercise and Nutrition Prehabilitation Program During Preoperative Chemotherapy Followed by Esophagectomy in Older Patients With Esophageal Cancer: A Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This prospective randomized trial evaluated whether prehabilitation, exercise and nutrition intervention, enhance skeletal muscle mass during neoadjuvant chemotherapy in older patients with esophageal cancer undergoing esophagectomy. We also investigated whether exercise alone was sufficient to increase skeletal muscle mass, and whether nutritional ...

VERY LARGE ARRAY MAPPING OF THE CO(1–0) LINE IN SMM J14011+0252 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We present high-resolution CO(1–0) observations of the lensed submillimeter galaxy (SMG) SMM J14011+0252 at z = 2.6. Comparison to the previously detected CO(3–2) line gives an intensity ratio of r3, 1 = 0.97 ± 0.16 in temperature units, larger than is ...

Spin Polarized Transport Through a Single-Molecule Magnet: Current-Induced Magnetic Switching

open access: yes, 2007
Magnetic switching of a single-molecule magnet (SMM) due to spin-polarized current is investigated theoretically. The charge transfer between the electrodes takes place via the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of the SMM.

Factor XIII Supplementation in Postpartum Hemorrhage: From Biological Rationale to Clinical Implementation

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) remains the leading cause of preventable maternal mortality despite standard interventions. Recent fibrinogen trials failed to improve outcomes, prompting interest in coagulation factor XIII (FXIII). FXIII functions as “molecular cement,” cross‐linking fibrin and stabilizing clots.
