Plant genotypic diversity and defoliation jointly shape root exudation, fungal communities, and carbon and nitrogen cycling

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 252, Issue 1, Page 324-339, October 2026.
Experimental design. Summary Intraspecific plant diversity is a major component of community diversity, yet its role in shaping plant–microbial interactions and soil functioning remains poorly understood. In particular, plant genotypic diversity may modulate ecosystem responses to defoliation, a key driver of ecosystem processes in grazed systems.

How Does the Ultra‐Processed Food Industry Drive Consumption Through Product Design and Marketing? Mapping a Complex Commercial System According to Expert Mental Models and Evidence Review

open access: yesObesity Reviews, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT The corporations that produce and profit from ultra‐processed foods (UPFs), and the regulatory conditions under which they operate, have been major contributors to the global rise of obesity and noncommunicable diseases. Wildfire Smoke Along Colorado's Front Range in 2020: An Evaluation of PM2.5 Monitor Spacing and Smoke Forecasts

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 18, 28 September 2026.
Abstract The 2020 wildfires caused widespread elevated fine particulate matter (PM2.5) concentrations across the western U.S. The Colorado Front Range experienced multiple smoke episodes from nearby fires and fires hundreds of kilometers away. Multiple days (88 total) with elevated PM2.5 along the Front Range occurred in 2020 between July and October ...

Cooking Impacts PM1 in Suburban New York, With Implications for Respiratory Deposition

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract Sub–micron particulate matter (PM1) in the New York (NY) metropolitan area impacts air quality and human health. We characterized refractory black carbon (BC) and non–refractory (NR) PM1 in Mineola, NY during winter 2024 and NR‐PM1 during summer 2023.

Derivation and Validation of a Predictive Model for Advanced Colorectal Neoplasia Among Average‐Risk Adults in China

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 159, Issue 6, Page 1455-1463, 15 September 2026.
Efficient pre‐colonoscopy risk stratification tools are needed, especially in China. Using multicenter colorectal cancer screening data from Shandong Province, the authors developed and validated a risk prediction model for advanced colorectal neoplasia in asymptomatic individuals using sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyle factors, and medical ...
