A Wind-Wave Farm System With Self-Energy Storage and Smoothed Power Output

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2016
This paper proposes a wind-wave farm system with a self-energy storage capability and a smoothed total power output. The fluctuating electrical power from wave is smoothed by utilizing the rotor inertias of the wind turbines as short-term energy storage ...

Forecasting the Dialysis Burden in Japan: Validation‐Based Projections of Prevalence and Incidence Through 2050

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.

Analysis of uncertain data: Smoothing of histograms [PDF]

open access: yes2009 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics, 2009
We consider the problem of converting a set of numeric data points into a smoothed approximation of the underlying probability distribution. We describe a representation of distributions by histograms with variable-width bars, and give a greedy smoothing algorithm based on this representation.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Smoothed Weighted Quantile Regression for Censored Data in Survival Analysis

open access: yesAxioms
In this study, we propose a smoothed weighted quantile regression (SWQR), which combines convolution smoothing with a weighted framework to address the limitations.

On stabilization of the node-based smoothed finite element method for free vibration problems

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics, 2010
The node-based smoothed finite element method (NS-FEM) has been recently proposed by Liu et al to enhance the computational effect for solid mechanics problems.

Smoothed Analysis for Graph Isomorphism

open access: yesProceedings of the 57th Annual ACM Symposium on Theory of Computing
There is no known polynomial-time algorithm for graph isomorphism testing, but elementary combinatorial "refinement" algorithms seem to be very efficient in practice. Some philosophical justification is provided by a classical theorem of Babai, Erdős and Selkow: an extremely simple polynomial-time combinatorial algorithm (variously known as "naïve ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Instantaneous Real-Time Kinematic Decimeter-Level Positioning with BeiDou Triple-Frequency Signals over Medium Baselines

open access: yesSensors, 2015
Many applications, such as marine navigation, land vehicles location, etc., require real time precise positioning under medium or long baseline conditions.

Numerical investigation of turbulent lid-driven flow using weakly compressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics CFD code with standard and dynamic LES models

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2023
Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) is a Lagrangian computational fluid dynamics method that has been widely used in the analysis of physical phenomena characterized by large deformation or multi-phase flow analysis, including free surface. Despite the
