Protein engineering strategies to optimise recombinant product synthesis and accumulation in Nicotiana benthamiana

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
Summary In plant molecular farming, recombinant products include traditional protein targets, such as antibodies, antigens, and enzymes, but also increasingly refers to high‐value peptides, and small molecules produced by heterologous enzymatic pathways.

Snake Venom Extracellular vesicles (SVEVs) reveal wide molecular and functional proteome diversity

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
Proteins constitute almost 95% of snake venom’s dry weight and are produced and released by venom glands in a solubilized form during a snake bite. These proteins are responsible for inducing several pharmacological effects aiming to immobilize and ...

Pure Event Semantics

open access: yesPhilosophical Perspectives, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In a pure event semantics for natural language, the domain of quantification and predication is limited to events and states. I offer pure event semantic analyses of several phenomena, some of which have not been treated before in formal semantics. In the pure event semantics sketched in the second section, nouns are state predicates, and this

Preparing for the worst: The irrationality of emotionally recalcitrant reasoning

open access: yesThe Southern Journal of Philosophy, EarlyView.
Abstract The question of what exactly is irrational about recalcitrant emotions—those that occur in tension or conflict with our beliefs—has been widely debated. Sabine Döring claims that such irrationality only emerges if we act on our recalcitrant emotion or engage in emotion‐relevant reasoning in light of it.

Isolation and functional characterization of proinflammatory acidic phospholipase A2 from Bothrops leucurus snake venom [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In the present study, an acidic PLA2, designated Bl-PLA2, was isolated from Bothrops leucurus snake venom through two chromatographic steps: ion-exchange on CM-Sepharose and hydrophobic chromatography on Phenyl-Sepharose.

A note on local formulae for the parity of Selmer ranks

open access: yesBulletin of the London Mathematical Society, EarlyView.
Abstract In this note, we provide evidence for a certain ‘twisted’ version of the parity conjecture for Jacobians, introduced in prior work of Dokchitser, Green, Konstantinou and the author. To do this, we use arithmetic duality theorems for abelian varieties to study the determinant of certain endomorphisms acting on p∞$p^\infty$‐Selmer groups.

The use of snake venom toxins in medicine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010

NMR solution structure of a chymotrypsin inhibitor from the Taiwan cobra Naja naja atra [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The Taiwan cobra (Naja naja atra) chymotrypsin inhibitor (NACI) consists of 57 amino acids and is related to other Kunitz-type inhibitors such as bovine pancreatic trypsin inhibitor (BPTI) and Bungarus fasciatus fraction IX (BF9), another chymotrypsin ...
