Linking Remotely Sensed Hydromorphological Conditions With Biological Observations to Estimate Salmon Spawning Capacity

open access: yesEcohydrology, Volume 19, Issue 3, April/May 2026.
ABSTRACT Performing ecohydraulic assessments of salmon habitat is essential for planning and evaluating management actions. Current in situ and modelling approaches, although accurate, can be time‐consuming and expensive, which limits the areal extent of the study.

Genetic Legacy of the Last Ice Age Shapes Shallow Phylogeographic Structure in a Widespread Mediterranean Snake

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Mediterranean peninsulas typically harbour high intraspecific genetic diversity associated with long‐term persistence in multiple glacial refugia. However, some widespread taxa show unexpectedly shallow phylogeographic structure. Here, we investigate which historical processes can generate a pattern of strong genetic depletion within a ...

Tendon‐Driven Compliant Wheel‐Less Snake Robot for Undulatory Locomotion Using Conformable Ground Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 8, Issue 3, March 2026.
This study presents a tendon‐driven compliant snake robot that uses globally applied vertical bending and axial twisting along its body to enable various gaits. Body deflection from compliance and weight passively generates the ground contact patterns required for locomotion.

Susceptibility of Gecko Cell Line for Cultivation and Adaptation of Infectious Bursal Disease Virus as an Experimental Vaccine

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 2, March 2026.
First successful cultivation of IBDV on reptile‐derived Z1 cells yields high‐titre virus and induces immunity in chickens. This scalable, egg‐free platform offers a promising alternative for vaccine production, leveraging evolutionary kinship between reptiles and birds for next‐generation poultry disease control.

Gendered processes of recruitment to elite higher educational institutions in mid‐twentieth century Britain

open access: yesGender &History, Volume 38, Issue 1, Page 307-326, March 2026.
Abstract This article uses rare and detailed data on matriculants to the University of Oxford during the middle decades of the twentieth century as a prism through which to consider gendered processes of recruitment to elite institutions.
