Developing a Scalable SNMP Monitor

We present the design of a scalable visual toolfor the analysis of high-throughput network traffic, powerconsumption and cluster-based system resource allocation. The tool explores the possibility of visualizing remote anddistributed resources over large distances by using SAGE2, a collaborative framework for large scale display systems.

SNMPs are membrane proteins observed to associate with chemosensory neurons in insects; in Drosophila melanogaster, SNMP1 has been shown to be essential for the detection of the pheromone cis-vaccenyl acetate (CVA). SNMPs are one of three insect gene clades related to the human fatty acid transporter CD36.

An efficient polling layer for SNMP

We propose the introduction of a polling layer that allows the efficient instrumentation of management information models for the use of monitoring-intensive management applications. The polling layer allows the optimization of the number of polling packets sent to the SNMP agents to collect management data.
