Seasonal Variability of Snow Density in the Spanish Pyrenees [PDF]
Spanish latitudes and meteorological conditions cause the snow phenomena to mainly take place in mountainous areas, playing a key role in water resource management, with the Pyrenees as one of the most important and best monitored areas. Based on the most significant dataset of snow density (SDEN) in the Spanish Pyrenees for on-site manual samples and ...

The endangered snow leopard Panthera uncia occurs in human use landscapes in the mountains of South and Central Asia. Conservationists generally agree that snow leopards must be conserved through a land-sharing approach, rather than land-sparing in the ...

Brief communication: Light-absorbing impurities can reduce the density of melting snow [PDF]
Climatic effects of black carbon (BC) deposition on snow have been proposed to result from reduced snow albedo and increased melt due to light-absorbing particles.

Snow Depth and Snow Density at Resolute, Northwest Territories [PDF]
Abstract Observations of the snow depth at 21 sites at Resolute were made twice weekly during the winter of 1957–58. As a result of these observations, and of other observations on snow made for the National Research Council, it is shown that the snow depth and the water content of the snow did not continue to ...

Estimating Snowpack Density from Near-Infrared Spectral Reflectance Using a Hybrid Model
Improving the estimation of snow density is a key task in current snow research. Characterization of the variability of density in time and space is essential for the estimation of water equivalent, hydroelectric power production, assessment of natural ...

Vertical profile of snow-firn density in the vicinity of Vostok station, Central Antarctica
The density of the snow and firn thickness is one of the fundamental and most important physical properties of the polar ice sheets. The data on density is used for reconstructing the past snow accumulation rate variability based on firn core studies ...

Convection of snow: when and why does it happen?
Convection of water vapor in snowpacks is supposed to have a major impact on snow density and microstructure profiles with strong implications for the thermal regime and snow stability.

Parameterization of the snow density in the top snow layer.
