Abstract Intermittent hypobaric hypoxia (IHH) enhances oxygen transport, muscle metabolism, and cardiovascular health; however, the combined effects of hypobaria and cold are less well understood. Exposure to these stressful environmental factors, even intermittently, can affect skeletal muscle due to its plasticity, thereby altering its metabolic and ...

A general treatment of snow microstructure exemplified by an improved relation for thermal conductivity [PDF]
Finding relevant microstructural parameters beyond density is a longstanding problem which hinders the formulation of accurate parameterizations of physical properties of snow.

Studies on the characteristics of snow particles affecting new snow density

The Shape and Density Evolution of Snow Aggregates [PDF]
Abstract Snow aggregates evolve into a variety of observed shapes and densities. Despite this diversity, models and observational studies employ fractal or Euclidean geometric measures that are assumed universal for all aggregates. This work therefore seeks to improve understanding and representation of snow aggregate geometry and its ...

ABSTRACT In this paper we report on faunal remains recovered from a legacy archaeological excavation undertaken in the rockshelter entrance of Waribruk (New Guinea II Cave), a GunaiKurnai site located on the west bank of the Snowy River, East Gippsland, southeastern Australia.

Étude nivométrique sur le bassin de la rivière Sainte-Anne de Beaupré [PDF]
During the winter 1959-60, the authors have studied various characteristics of the snow cover in the basin of the river Ste. Anne de Beaupré. They observed that the density of snow always varied between 2.0 and 2.5.

AbstractSnow plays a vital role in the interaction between land and atmosphere in the state-of-the-art land surface models (LSMs) and the real world. While snow plays a crucial role as a boundary condition in meteorological applications and serves as a vital water resource in certain regions, the acquisition of its observational data poses significant ...

Opposing consensus science through scholarly practices: The role of claims maintenance
Abstract This study examines how three US‐based communities who oppose consensus science produce and disseminate scholarly‐like artifacts: pro‐life activists, Young Earth Creationists, and Anthropogenic Climate Crisis skeptics. Prior research shows that industry‐ or church‐backed advocacy campaigns often generate claims supported by these communities ...

Automated Calibration of a Snow‐On‐Sea‐Ice Model
Snow on Arctic sea ice has many, contrasting effects on ice thickness and extent. Furthermore, estimates of snow depth on Arctic sea ice are a key input for ice thickness estimates from satellite altimeters such as ICESat‐2.

A stratification model of surface snow at Dome Fuji Station, Antarctica [PDF]
A stratification model of surface snow on the ice sheet, which includes snow density evolution, is proposed. Using the temperature profile in the surface snow layer obtained at Dome Fuji Station, Antarctica, snow density evolution under various ...
