Measurement of snow particle size and velocity in avalanche powder clouds [PDF]
Particle size, particle speed and airflow speed have been measured in the powder snow clouds of avalanches to investigate the suspension and transportation processes of snow particles. The avalanches were artificially triggered at the Lautaret full-scale

Measurements and modelling of snow particle size and shortwave infrared albedo over a melting Antarctic ice sheet [PDF]
The albedo of a snowpack depends on the single-scattering properties of individual snow crystals, which have a variety of shapes and sizes, and are often bounded in clusters.

Characteristics of Snow Particle Size Distribution in the PyeongChang Region of South Korea [PDF]
Snow particle size distribution (PSD) information is important in understanding the microphysics and quantitative precipitation estimation over complex terrain. Measurement and interpretation of the snow PSDs is a topic of active research.

The importance of particle size distribution and internal structure for triple-frequency radar retrievals of the morphology of snow [PDF]
The accurate representation of ice particles is essential for both remotely sensed estimates of clouds and precipitation and numerical models of the atmosphere.

Laser attenuation in falling snow correlated with measurements of snow particle size distribution [PDF]
We investigate transmission through falling snow using a 3D imaging lidar at 1.56-μm wavelength. The lidar is based on the time-correlated single-photon counting technique. Experimental transmission data are compared with Mie theory transmission calculations based on snow particle size distribution simultaneously measured with a laser disdrometer.

Size of snow particles in a powder-snow avalanche [PDF]
AbstractLittle quantitative information is available concerning the size of ice particles in the turbulent clouds of powder-snow avalanches. To quantify particle size distributions, we have developed an experimental device that collects particles in real-scale powder avalanches.

Particle-Size Distribution of Pulverized Snow [PDF]
AbstractA microscopic method for the determination of particle-size distribution of pulverized snow was worked out. The method gives satisfactory distribution curves, presenting the number of particles as a function of their cross-sectional “areas”. The measurements were made by means of a filar micrometer eyepiece, the snow particles being placed on a

Ensemble mean density and its connection to other microphysical properties of falling snow as observed in Southern Finland [PDF]
In this study measurements collected during winters 2013/2014 and 2014/2015 at the University of Helsinki measurement station in Hyytiälä are used to investigate connections between ensemble mean snow density, particle fall velocity and parameters of the
