Traditional Sámi snow terminology and physical snow classification—Two ways of knowing
Cold Regions Science and Technology, 2013Abstract Humans describe the natural environment on the basis of their local experience and their interactions with nature in terms of its relevance to their daily lives. These descriptions are incorporated into local languages and form a specialized terminology that is unique and specifically applicable to needs and practices.

This chapter is a review of current physics-based techniques for modeling snowmelt. Mixture theory is used to develop the equations of conservation of mass, momentum and energy for snow treated as a two-component, three-phase mixture of ice, water, water vapor, and air.

The effect of time on the physical properties of deposited snow
Journal of Geophysical Research, 1965The observed changes in a number of the physical properties of snow with time are explained by the growth of ice necks between the particles. The necks grow as a result of the diffusion of water vapor to these regions, and the diffusion is brought about by the low vapor pressures existing in the neighborhood of the necks.
