Respiratory health among professionals exposed to extreme SO2 levels from a volcanic eruption

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Work, Environment & Health, 2019
OBJECTIVE: The Holuhraun eruption of fall and winter 2014–15 produced large amounts of sulfur dioxide (SO_2). The aim of this study was to determine if exposure to extreme SO_2 levels affected the health of individuals working at the eruption site ...

The jet and the disk of the HH 212 low-mass protostar imaged by ALMA: SO and SO2 emission [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
To investigate the disk formation and jet launch in protostars is crucial to comprehend the earliest stages of star and planet formation. We aim to constrain the properties of the molecular jet and the disk of the HH 212 protostellar system at ...

Metal–Organic Frameworks for Gaseous Pollutant Management: From Capture to Neutralization and Reutilization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review maps how MOFs can manage hazardous gases by combining adsorption, neutralization, and reutilization, enabling sustainable air‐pollution control. Covering chemical warfare agent simulants, SO2, NOx, NH3, H2S, and volatile organic compounds, it highlights structure‐guided strategies that boost selectivity, water tolerance, and cycling ...

Journal Staff [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
There are fewer longitudinal studies from China on symptoms as described for the sick building syndrome (SBS). Here, we performed a two-year prospective study and investigated associations between environmental parameters such as room temperature ...

Effective Penetration of the Oxidized Keratin‐Rebonding Materials Into Hair Shafts Based on Charge Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We have developed a smart hair‐repair ingredient based on β‐carboxylic acid amide that undergoes negative‐to‐positive charge conversion under mildly acidic conditions. The initial negative charge facilitates deep penetration into the hair fiber, while the subsequent positive charge enables re‐bonding with sulfonate groups in damaged hair keratin.

Unravelling the Secret of Sulfur Confinement and High Sulfur Utilization in Hybrid Sulfur‐Carbons

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Thermal condensation of inverse vulcanized sulfur‐carbon hybrids enables a bottom‐up sulfur confinement strategy, in which a protective carbon phase is progressively constructed around sulfur species. The resulting carbon nanodomains covalently tether sulfur chains and stabilize radical intermediates. This integrated architecture effectively suppresses

Emergency Admissions Due to Respiratory Problems in Children Change with Extend of Air Pollution

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Research
Aim: Outdoor air pollution can cause many acute or chronic diseases in childhood, with respiratory tract diseases being the leading outcome. Very little childhood data exists to investigate the levels of exposure to pollution.

Gas emission strength and evolution of the molar ratio of BrO/SO2 in the plume of Nyiragongo in comparison to Etna [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Airborne and ground-based differential optical absorption spectroscopy observations have been carried out at the volcano Nyiragongo (Democratic Republic of Congo) to measure SO2 and bromine monoxide (BrO) in the plume in March 2004 and June 2007 ...

Improving Ionic Conformality Across Polymer Electrolyte|Electrode Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Polymer electrolytes typically form physically intimate electrode interfaces but often fail to maintain continuous ionic pathways, critically limiting battery performance. Through strategic compositional design, this study introduces a molecular ionic composite electrolyte that effectively reduces interfacial ionic depletion, ensuring consistent ion ...
