Differential regulation of ZFAS1 splice variants by endoplasmic reticulum stress in hepatocyte cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZFAS1 is a lncRNA promoting cell proliferation and migration, exhibiting high expression in various cancers. It is conserved, widely expressed, and produces multiple splice variants with unclear roles. We identified several splice variants in hepatocyte models, and found that inhibiting or suppressing regulators of the unfolded protein response (PERK ...

HIV‐1 establishes immediate latency in T cells expressing the viral Nef protein

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Nef is a viral protein often omitted from HIV‐1 reporter viruses. Consequently, its role in viral latency is unclear. We developed three novel dual reporter HIV‐1 derivatives that express Nef and allow for detection of latent and productive infection. Using these reporters, we show that Nef does not affect the establishment of immediate viral latency ...

Alcohol‐induced altered glycans in human tracheal epithelial cells promote bacterial adhesion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Alcohol induces altered glycans to promote bacteria adhesion. Heavy alcohol drinking is known to increase the risk of bacterial pneumonia. However, the link between alcohol levels and risk of infection remains underexplored. Recently, we found that alcohol induced α2‐6sialo mucin O‐glycans in human tracheobronchial epithelial cells, which mediated the ...

BMI‐1 modulation and trafficking during M phase in diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The schematic illustrates BMI‐1 phosphorylation during M phase, which triggers its translocation from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. In cycling cells, BMI‐1 functions within the PRC1 complex to mediate H2A K119 monoubiquitination. Following PTC596‐induced M phase arrest, phosphorylated BMI‐1 dissociates from PRC1 and is exported to the cytoplasm via its

The cooperative regulation of miR‐221 by APE1 and AUF1 impacts p27Kip1 defining a miR signature relevant for cervical cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A regulatory axis involving APE1, AUF1, and miR‐221 is proposed. Pri‐miR‐221 is processed by DROSHA and DICER to generate mature miR‐221, which targets p27Kip1 mRNA. APE1 and AUF1 compete for pre‐miR‐221 binding. Reduced APE1/AUF1 levels impair miR‐221 biogenesis, decrease p27Kip1 mRNA degradation, and promote cell cycle progression, chemoresistance ...

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Social adjustment in rehabilitation

International Journal of Rehabilitation Research, 1984
A three years' follow up study was carried out to assess the efficacy of a psychiatric rehabilitation service in an urban/suburban English district of about 200 000 population, by examining, a cohort of 100 rehabilitees who used the service. This paper briefly outlines the types of residential facilities available to the service and it describes the ...

The Assessment of Social Adjustment

Archives of General Psychiatry, 1981
Since a review of 15 social adjustment scales appeared six years ago in the ARCHIVES, a number of new scales have been developed and tested. Twelve new scales, three written self-administered and nine interviewer-administered scales, are considered to be useful in clinical and epidemiologic research in psychiatry.

Norms of Adjustment and Social Behavior

Archives of General Psychiatry, 1971
The social behavior and adjustment of 450 nonpatients, randomly drawn from the general population of a metropolitan county, were measured by a rating scale widely used in mental health research: the Katz Adjustment Scales. Variations by sex, age, marital status, and social class suggest that relevant differences be considered when clinical judgments of

Social Adjustment and Depression

Archives of General Psychiatry, 1973
Social and interpersonal maladjustments found in depressed women were reassessed over an eight-month follow-up and compared with normal controls. Overall, there was considerable improvement in social adjustment, but it occurred more slowly than that for symptoms and left some residual deficits.
