The domestic political impact of foreign aid: recalibrating the research agenda [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The recent concentration of attention by some political scientists on evaluating the effectiveness of democracy assistance, drawing on the transient policy concerns of major donors, is a welcome innovation to a research agenda traditionally biased ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

MODELLING AID ALLOCATION: ISSUES, APPROACHES AND RESULTS [PDF]

open access: yes
There is a widespread view that political criteria have received less emphasis in aid allocation since the end of the cold war, with a greater share of aid subsequently being based on developmental criteria.

The de minimis Aid Scheme “Aid for the Establishment of Social Enterprises”

open access: yesCECCAR Business Review, 2020
In this article we aim to highlight the activities that fall under the scope of the de minimis aid scheme “Aid for the establishment of social enterprises” and those for which the scheme is not applicable, the certification requirements for social ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SEM-PLS APPROACH TO ANALYZE THE IMPACT OF SOCIAL AID AND APBD ON POVERTY IN THE BOJONEGORO DISTRICT

open access: yesBarekeng
Poverty is the socio-economic condition of individuals or groups whose fundamental rights to maintain and develop a decent life are unmet. The poverty rate in Bojonegoro was 12.21% in 2022.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Aid tying and donor fragmentation [PDF]

open access: yes
This study tests two opposing hypotheses about the impact of aid fragmentation on the practice of aid tying. In one, when a small number of donors dominate the aid market in a country, they may exploit their monopoly power by tying more aid to purchases ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
