Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

The Effectiveness of Cognitive-Behavioral Social Skills Training (CBSST) on Reducing Symptoms of Students with Externalizing Behavior Disorders [PDF]

open access: yesRavānshināsī-i Afrād-i Istis̠nāyī, 2013
Given the emphasis the specialists put on the necessity of mental health interventions for elementary school children as a primary prevention, and also their focus on the treatment and development of mental health, the present research aims to study the ...

Potential markers of aggressive behavior: the fear of other persons' laughter and its overlaps with mental disorders.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
BackgroundAnecdotal evidence suggested that some outbreaks of aggression and violence may be related to a fear of being laughed at and ridiculed. The present study examined the potential association of the fear of other persons' laughter (gelotophobia ...

Sense of presence and atypical social judgments in immersive virtual reality: responses of adolescents with Autistic Spectrum Disorders

open access: yes, 2010
Immersive virtual environments (IVEs) are potentially powerful educational resources but their application for children with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) is under researched. This study aimed to answer two research questions: (1) do children with ASD

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Cognitive Rehabilitation of Adaptive Behavior in Children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders: A Meta-Analysis

open access: yesOccupational Therapy International, 2018
Objectives. Negative behavioral problems often occur following the onset of neurodevelopmental disorders and have an overall impact on the affected children, specifically in terms of their social developmental level.

Cognitive behavioral therapy of socially phobic children focusing on cognition: a randomised wait-list control study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
BACKGROUND: Although literature provides support for cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as an efficacious intervention for social phobia, more research is needed to improve treatments for children.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Explanation of Self-determination Experiences in Students with Externalized Behavior Disorders: A Phenomenological Approach

open access: yesJournal of Qualitative Research in Health Sciences, 2019
Introduction: Students with externalized behavior disorders have lower levels of capacity for self-determination skills. The aim of this study was to explain self-determination experiences in students with externalized behavior disorders.
