GLOBALIZATION - 'ECONOMY WITHOUT BORDERS' [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of the University of Petrosani: Economics, 2019
Globalization is perceived differently by theorists: some consider to be a positive phenomenon bringing benefits and progress, others see it as a phenomenon bringing imbalance and social polarization.

Bacteriophages of Myxococcus xanthus, a Social Bacterium

open access: yesViruses, 2018
Bacteriophages have been used as molecular tools in fundamental biology investigations for decades. Beyond this, however, they play a crucial role in the eco-evolutionary dynamics of bacterial communities through their demographic impact and the source ...

Social capital accumulation and the evolution of social partecipation [PDF]

open access: yes
We study the co-evolution of social participation and social capital accumulation, taking the view that the former contributes to the latter, and both contribute to the enjoyment of relational goods Within this framework, we show that a process of ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Urbanization in Archaeological Interpretation. Case study: “Hellenized settlements” in the Central Balkans

open access: yesEtnoantropološki Problemi, 2012
In the archaeological literature, the problem of urbanization and the emergence of cities have most often been solved in the framework of the formation of states and first “civilizations”.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Pathogenic Dynamics During Colony Ontogeny Reinforce Potential Drivers of Termite Eusociality: Mate Assistance and Biparental Care

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2019
As an ecologically dominant taxon, termites appear to be resilient to environmental stressors. However, swarming alates (winged-individuals) encounter a myriad of environmental pressures that drastically reduce the probability of colony foundation ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.
