Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular

Unraveling LINE‐1 retrotransposition in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel RetroTest method allows the detection of L1 activation in clinical samples with low DNA input, providing global L1 activity and the identification of the L1 source element. We applied RetroTest to a real‐world cohort of HNSCC patients where we reported an early L1 activation, with more than 60% of T1 patients showing L1 activity.

On subcellular distribution of the zinc finger 469 protein (ZNF469) and observed discrepancy in the localization of endogenous and overexpressed ZNF469

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZNF469 regulates the expression of genes encoding extracellular matrix proteins. Endogenous ZNF469 is predominantly cytoplasmic, while in transfected cells, it forms aggregates reminiscent of biomolecular condensates, located mainly in the nucleus. These condensates exhibit overlapping staining with proteasomes and are also associated with the mitotic ...

Intergenerational mobility in England, 1858-2012. Wealth, surnames, and social mobility [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper uses a panel of 21,618 people with rare surnames whose wealth is observed at death in England and Wales 1858-2012 to measure the intergeneration elasticity of wealth over five generations.

KCS1 and VIP1, the genes encoding yeast phosphoinositol pyrophosphate synthases, are required for Ca2+‐mediated response to dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO)

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Ca2+‐mediated response to DMSO was investigated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells expressing Ca2+‐dependent aequorin. Cell exposure to DMSO induced a cytosolic Ca2+ wave dependent on the integrity of the Cch1/Mid1 channel. Deletion of KCS1 or VIP1 genes encoding the phosphoinositol pyrophosphate (PP‐IP) synthases suppressed the DMSO‐induced Ca2 ...

Serum ferritin levels and bone mineral density in the elderly

open access: yesCaspian Journal of Internal Medicine, 2018
Background: Iron overload influences negatively on bone mineral density (BMD) but the results of studies regarding serum ferritin (SF) and BMD are conflicting. This study aimed to determine the association of SF and BMD in the elderly.

Symmetry and dissipation as the basic mechanism of social mobility, explaining distance scaling of migration patterns [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Models of social mobility inspired by the Newton's law of gravity have been used for several decades to describe migrations of people, goods, and information. Despite an eminent reference and widespread use, these models lack the background theory, being often viewed as a collection of empirical recipes which rely on adjustable parameters.
