ChatGPT as a tool for honing teachers' Socratic dialogue skills [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Educ. 59 (2024) 045005
In this proof-of-concept paper, we propose a specific kind of pedagogical use of ChatGPT - to help teachers practice their Socratic dialogue skills. We follow up on the previously published paper "ChatGPT and the frustrated Socrates" by re-examining ChatGPT's ability to engage in Socratic dialogue in the role of a physics student.

Towards Systemic Leadership Resilience: Proposing the Hybrid Artificial Intelligent Leader in Response to Economic Crises

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Administrative Sciences / Revue Canadienne des Sciences de l'Administration, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Researchers now understand that the Great Recession stemmed from a “systemic leadership failure,” involving various entities such as the government, financial institutions, investors, homeowners, and regulators. Consequently, traditional leadership approaches of the time came under intense scrutiny, necessitating a shift in leadership ...

The Socratic Practice Of “Care of the Self” (Epimeleia Heautou) and the Coaching Process

open access: yesStudia Humanistyczne AGH, 2023
In this paper I present a comparative analysis of the knowledge discovery process applied by Socrates and the contemporary life coach. On one hand, I will use the method of in-depth analysis of selected (Socratic) dialogues by Plato, and on the other one

SoCRATES: System-on-Chip Resource Adaptive Scheduling using Deep Reinforcement Learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) is being increasingly applied to the problem of resource allocation for emerging System-on-Chip (SoC) applications, and has shown remarkable promises. In this paper, we introduce SoCRATES (SoC Resource AdapTivE Scheduler), an extremely efficient DRL-based SoC scheduler which maps a wide range of hierarchical jobs to ...

The Equivalence Principle as a Stepping Stone from Special to General Relativity: A Socratic Dialog [PDF]

open access: yesAm.J.Phys. 74 (2006) 22-25, 2005
In this paper we show how the student can be led to an understanding of the connection between special relativity and general relativity by considering the time dilation effect of clocks placed on the surface of the Earth. This paper is written as a Socratic dialog between a lecturer Sam and a student Kim.

Il carcere prima del carcere in una civiltà dell’accusa. Riflessioni moderne, partendo da Atene e Roma

open access: yesDNA Di Nulla Academia, 2023
The prison before the prison is a nominal expression whose meaning concerns the so called (ancient and modern) accusation cultures. This kind of community considers the charged as guilty or already ethically condemned, even before a judgment.

The Art of SOCRATIC QUESTIONING: Recursive Thinking with Large Language Models [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Chain-of-Thought (CoT) prompting enables large language models to solve complex reasoning problems by generating intermediate steps. However, confined by its inherent single-pass and sequential generation process, CoT heavily relies on the initial decisions, causing errors in early steps to accumulate and impact the final answers.

Relativistic Accretion Mediated by Turbulent Comptonization [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophys.J.719:784-789,2010, 2008
Black hole and neutron star accretion flows display unusually high levels of hard coronal emission in comparison to all other optically thick, gravitationally bound, turbulent astrophysical systems. Since these flows sit in deep relativistic gravitational potentials, their random bulk motions approach the speed of light, therefore allowing turbulent ...

Socrates on the Emotions [PDF]

open access: yesPLATO JOURNAL, 2015
In Plato’s Protagoras, Socrates clearly indicates that he is a cognitivist about the emotions—in other words, he believes that emotions are in some way constituted by cognitive states. It is perhaps because of this that some scholars have claimed that Socrates believes that the only way to change how others feel about things is to engage them in ...
