The conversion of calcium alginate fibers into alginic acid fibers and sodium alginate fibers
Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2006AbstractAlginate is a natural polymer extracted from brown seaweeds. Over the last two decades, alginate fibers have become well established in the wound management industry where their ion exchange and gel forming abilities are particularly useful in the treatment for exuding wounds.

MOLECULAR WEIGHT AND HYDRODYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF SODIUM ALGINATE
Canadian Journal of Biochemistry and Physiology, 1954Sedimentation, diffusion, and viscosity measurements were made on five unfractionated samples of sodium alginate ranging in intrinsic viscosity from 3.1 to 17.5. Diffusion coefficients were subject to large errors and are believed to be overestimated.Though the molecular weights obtained from sedimentation–diffusion (Svedberg equation) and ...

Complex Coacervation of Milk Proteins with Sodium Alginate
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2018Beta-lactoglobulin (BLG) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) coacervate formation with sodium alginate (ALG) was investigated by turbidimetric analysis, zeta potential, particle size, viscosity, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and isothermal titration calorimetric (ITC) measurements as a function of pH (1.0-7.0) and protein/alginate mixing ratio (1:1,

Facile Synthesis of Polyaniline−Sodium Alginate Nanofibers
Langmuir, 2006This work demonstrates a facile route to the synthesis of large quantities of uniform polyaniline-sodium alginate (PANI-SA) nanofibers template-guided by SA. This approach is an easy, inexpensive, environmentally friendly, and scalable one-step method to produce uniform nanofibers with controllable average diameters in bulk quantities.

The interaction of sodium alginate with univalent cations
Biopolymers, 1998The M/G ratio, dyad and triad frequencies in the sodium alginate chain, were determined from 13C-nmr spectra. The interactions of sodium alginate in solution with the univalent cations K+ ion and Na+ ion have been investigated by viscometry and membrane osmometry.

Sodium Alginate Based Mucoadhesive Hydrogels
Applied Biochemistry and Microbiology, 2019The potential use of sodium-alginate hydrogels as mucoadhesive drug delivery carriers for intranasal application is studied. It is demonstrated that the drug release rate is dependent on the drug solubility in water, the drug concentration in the carrier, and the degree of alginate crosslinking.

Dielectric characterisation of sodium alginate gels
Journal of Materials Chemistry, 1992The dielectric response of aqueous sodium alginate solutions has been measured along with their viscosities at concentrations up to 5% m/v over the frequency range 10–2–104 Hz. The data were analysed by considering the systems to comprise a high-frequency bulk response in series with a low-frequency barrier response, reflecting the behaviour of an ...

Preparation and properties of sodium alginate films
Journal of Polymer Engineering, 2013Abstract Sodium alginate (SA) films were prepared by casting from methanol (MeOH) solutions and their tensile properties, like tensile strength (TS) and elongation at break (Eb %), were monitored. The resulting films of SA were photocured with vinyltriethoxysilane [H2C=CH–Si–(OC2H5)3] in order to improve the tensile properties. Several acrylic monomers

Sodium alginate sponges with or without sodium hyaluronate:In vitro engineering of cartilage
Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, 2001Studies are underway to design biosystems containing embedded chondrocytes to fill osteochondral defects and to produce a tissue close to native cartilage. In the present report, a new alginate three-dimensional support for chondrocyte culture is described.

Electrospinning of Sodium Alginate‐Pectin Ultrafine Fibers
Journal of Food Science, 2010ABSTRACT: In this study, we investigated the electrospinning process of sodium alginate‐pectin fibers intended to be used as a carrier for stabilizing folic acid. Fiber‐forming solutions containing 0.01% (w/w) folic acid were prepared by blending low‐ or medium‐viscosity sodium alginate with pectin in a 70 : 30 ratio to form LSAP and MSAP solutions ...
