Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Comparison of Oral Sodium Compounds for the Correction of Acidosis
Three Na compounds were tested to determine which was best able to treat metabolic acidosis in dairy cows. Metabolic acidosis was induced in test cows by feeding a diet that was high in anions for 7 d before the administration of treatment on d 8. The orally administered treatments were equivalent amounts of Na in the form of NaCl (208.6 g), NaHCO3 ...

An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Effect of sodium rich pretreatments and processing conditions on microstructure and property evolution of sodium cobalt oxide thermoelectric materials [PDF]
Global environmental and sustainability issues have led to a growth in interest in oxide based thermoelectric materials. Sodium cobalt oxide, which presents low toxicity, is one of the most promising p-type thermoelectric materials for high temperature ...

Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Dissolution of sodium, aluminum and caustic compounds from bauxite residues [PDF]
Bauxite residues consist of solid particles and a strongly alkaline liquid. Depending on the selected disposal method, the solids content of washed bauxite residues varies from 30 to 70 w-%.

Cardiac Glycosides in Human Physiology and Disease: Update for Entomologists
Cardiac glycosides, cardenolides and bufadienolides, are elaborated by several plant or animal species to prevent grazing or predation. Entomologists have characterized several insect species that have evolved the ability to sequester these glycosides in

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.
