Modelling the tides and their impacts on the vertical stratification over the Sofala Bank, Mozambique [PDF]

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Marine Science, 2016
The Sofala Bank, a wide shelf located along the central coast of Mozambique, hosts tides with high amplitudes. The Regional Ocean Modelling System (ROMS) was used to analyse the tidal currents on the bank and to investigate their effects on the stratification and generation of tidal fronts.

Water mass characteristics in a shallow bank highly influenced by river discharges: the Sofala Bank in Mozambique [PDF]

Impact of offshore eddies on shelf circulation and river plumes of the Sofala Bank, Mozambique Channel

open access: yesJournal of Marine Systems, 2018
Abstract A high-resolution, two-way nested Regional Ocean Modeling System, forced with monthly climatologies, has been set up for the Sofala Bank and adjacent deeper ocean of the Mozambique Channel to investigate the role of offshore mesoscale eddies on the shelf circulation, hydrographic structures and river plumes.

The influence of the river runoff in the artisanal fisheries catches in tropical coastal waters – The case of the Zambezi River and the fisheries catches in the northern Sofala Bank, Mozambique [PDF]

open access: yesRevista de Gestão Costeira Integrada, 2015
The artisanal catches contributes significantly in the overall annual fish production in Mozambique, estimated to 115,000 -140,000 tones, and thus of significant importance to livelihood of the coastal communities. However, the variation in fish production depends on several factors, among which the climatic factors, that need to be understood for ...

A short note on the available information about demersal fish on the shallow part of Sofala Bank [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
The present information on the biomass and catch of demersal species which constitute a large part of the by-catch of the shrimp trawlers on the Sofala Bank (Mozambique), and thus seem to be more vulnerable than the pelagic stocks to an increase in ...
