Political ecologies of resettlement in river deltas

open access: yesGeography Compass, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2022., 2022
Abstract In river deltas, human interference with regional and global socio‐ecological systems has led to a plethora of gradual and more abrupt environmental changes that result in inundation, coastal and river bank erosion, land loss and, ultimately, displaced people. Often apolitically framed as protective, state‐led transfer of people to new housing

Morphology of the Zambezi River plume in the Sofala Bank, Mozambique

open access: yesWestern Indian Ocean Journal of Marine Science, 2015
In this paper, hydrographic data collected in the vicinity of the Zambezi River plume between 2004-2007 is discussed alongside historical data to infer the plume morphology. The sampling plan called for 73 CTD stations that were interspersed with sampling of shrimp recruitment.

Vertical Migration of Gold-spot Herring (Herklotsichthys quadrimaculatus) Larvae on Sofala Bank, Mozambique

open access: yesWestern Indian Ocean Journal of Marine Science, 2012
Vertical larval fish movement influences their survival and dispersal, hence recruitment variability. This study presents the vertical behaviour of gold-spot herring (Herklotsichthys quadrimaculatus) larvae observed on the Sofala Bank (Mozambique) throughout a 48-hour period when depth-stratified samples were taken every 2 h, together with CTD profiles,

Role of mesoscale eddies in the biogeochemistry of the Mozambique Channel

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
This study aims to characterize how eddies shape the biogeochemistry of the Mozambique Channel using a physical-biogeochemical model that realistically simulates its interannual dynamics.

A report on a survey with the r/v "Ernst Haeckel" in July-August 1980: shallow-water shrimp and by-catch, oceanography [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
A survey of the Sofala Bank (Mozambique) was conducted to: estimate the abundance of shallow-water shrimp in the area between 16 degree 20'S and 20 degree 20'S, from 5 to 100 meters; estimate the shallow-water shrimp species composition and distribution ...

Quantifying Mozambique's Peace Dividend: An Application of the Synthetic Control Method

open access: yesReview of Development Economics, Volume 30, Issue 2, Page 847-864, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Using the synthetic control method and data from 20 African countries, this study quantifies the peace dividend in Mozambique, a country that experienced over 15 years of civil war. More specifically, we use data from 1977 to 2018 to investigate whether the end of the civil war in Mozambique in 1992 brought significant benefits to the country ...

A Phenoregion Approach to Understanding Chlorophyll‐a Seasonal Cycles and Interannual Variability in the South‐West Indian Ocean

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 131, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract The South‐West Indian Ocean (SWIO) displays marked spatial variations in physical forcings, driving in turn distinct seasonal biogeochemical regimes. Mesoscale eddies in the Mozambique Channel drive large‐scale redistribution of nutrients and plankton, while eastern Madagascar waters are highly oligotrophic.

Dismantling the genus Tarenna (Rubiaceae: Pavetteae) in Africa and Madagascar, with the description of three new genera

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 75, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract As presently circumscribed, the Paleotropical genus Tarenna, belonging to the tribe Pavetteae (Rubiaceae), comprises about 200 species and has its centres of diversity in tropical Asia and Africa. Previous molecular phylogenetic studies of the tribe revealed the polyphyly of Tarenna, suggesting that the genus needs to be recircumscribed ...
