A Brief Course in Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking I. The Paleolitic Age [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The physical world is marked by the phenomenon of spontaneous broken symmetry (SBS) i.e. where the state of a system is assymmetric with respect to the symmetry principles that govern its dynamics.

Transparent Inorganic–Organic Bilayer Neural Electrode Array and Integration to Miniscope System for In Vivo Calcium Imaging and Electrophysiology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents the BioCLEAR system, a highly transparent and conductive neural electrode array composed of silver nanowires (AgNWs) and doped PEDOT:PSS, enabling neural recordings with minimal optical artifacts. When integrated with a GRIN lens, this cost‐effective neural implant allows simultaneous electrophysiological recording and GCaMP6‐based ...

Ionic Control of Microstructure and Lubrication in Charged, Physically Cross‐Linked Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, charged, physically cross‐linked poly(methacrylamide‐co‐methacrylic acid) hydrogels stabilized by a short‐range attractive, long‐range repulsive potential is investigated. This work uncovers how salt addition alters not only swelling, but also the microstructure and dynamics, near‐surface stiffness and charge, and ultimately, its lubricity. Salts

Stringent Constraints on the Nuclear Matter Equation of State from Heavy Nuclei and Neutron Star Properties with a Multi-iteration Bayesian Statistical Analysis

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The equation of state (EoS) of dense nuclear matter, particularly the symmetry energy that characterizes its isospin dependence, is of fundamental importance in neutron star (NS) physics and nuclear physics. Apart from the extensively used multimessenger

Evolution of the Binary Fraction in Dense Stellar Systems

open access: yes, 2009
Using our recently improved Monte Carlo evolution code, we study the evolution of the binary fraction in globular clusters. In agreement with previous N-body simulations, we find generally that the hard binary fraction in the core tends to increase with ...

Microporous Microgel Assemblies Facilitating the Recruitment and Osteogenic Differentiation of Progenitor Cells for Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
There is a significant need for biomaterials with well‐defined stability and bioactivity to support tissue regeneration. In this study, we developed a tunable microgel platform that enables the decoupling of stiffness from porosity, thereby promoting bone regeneration.

Miniature Nanomesh Mechano‐Acoustic Sensor with Wide Linear Dynamic Range, Broad Bandwidth, and Flat Frequency Response

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A miniaturized mechano‐acoustic sensor is developed using an electrospun PVDF nanomesh as the diaphragm in a capacitive sensor structure. Unlike conventional nanomesh‐based sensors, it achieves high linear sensitivity, a broad and flat frequency response, and a compact form factor.

Hadron collider limits on anomalous $WW\gamma$ couplings

open access: yes, 1994
A next-to-leading log calculation of the reactions $pp$ and $p\overline{p}\rightarrow W^\pm\gamma X$ is presented including a tri-boson gauge coupling from non-Standard Model contributions. Two approaches are made for comparison.

A Bespoke Programmable Interpenetrating Elastomer Network Composite Laryngeal Stent for Expedited Paediatric Laryngotracheal Reconstruction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A programmable interpenetrating double‐network architecture, created via 3D‐TIPS printing and resin infusion, synergistically combines thermoplastic and thermosetting elastomers to balance structural rigidity and surface softness—crucial for paediatric laryngeal stents.
