Approximate Data Driven Parallel Shape Matching for Soft Body Physics Simulations

2019 International Artificial Intelligence and Data Processing Symposium (IDAP), 2019
We propose an algorithm that is fully parallel and has linear time complexity for soft body simulation that addresses three principal issues; Visual Quality, Performance and Ease of use. It works using the power of precomputed collision result look-up data and basic approach of shape matching.

Soft-Body Physics

2014
In this chapter, you will change the player character from a rigid object to a soft-body physics object. A soft body is an object whose predetermined shape can bend and flex under the forces applied to it. If the body is also trying to relax back into its predetermined shape, it is often referred to as “jelly” physics—especially if the shape is easily ...

Fast, Interactive Soft-Body Animation A Real-Time Physics Engine using Position-Based Dynamics

open access: yes, 2017
Physics simulations for realistic computer graphics is a subject that has been around for a long time. This paper covers the implementation of a framework called Position-Based Dynamics with the goal to simulate real-time soft-body dynamics in an interactive setting.

Design of a soft upper body robot for physical human-robot interaction

2015 IEEE-RAS 15th International Conference on Humanoid Robots (Humanoids), 2015
To physically interact with children, a robot should be safe and durable. We have developed a small toy sized robot with a soft skin that is robust to playful physical interaction. The upper body, including the arms, pelvis, chest and back has soft, 3D printed air-filled modules connected to pressure sensors to sense contact and provide protection to ...

Clothing Adjustments for Concealed Soft Body Armor During Moderate Physical Exertion

Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene, 2015
Previous research has studied the impact of Level II concealed soft body armor (SBA) on the augmentation of heat storage in a hot environment simulating a typical summer day in the southeastern United States (wet bulb globe temperature [WBGT] = 30°C) and noted a significant difference between macro- and micro-WBGTs.

Undulatory Swimming Performance and Body Stiffness Modulation in a Soft Robotic Fish-Inspired Physical Model

Soft Robotics, 2017
Undulatory motion of the body is the dominant mode of locomotion in fishes, and numerous studies of body kinematics and muscle activity patterns have provided insights into the mechanics of swimming. However, it has not been possible to investigate how key parameters such as the extent of bilateral muscle activation affect propulsive performance due to

Lack of association between television viewing, soft drinks, physical activity and body mass index in children

Acta Paediatrica, 2008
AbstractObjective: To examine the cross‐sectional and longitudinal associations of physical activity, screen time and dietary habits on the body mass index (BMI) of children. Methods: A cohort of 122 girls and 146 boys (age at entry 10 years) from three rural states in the western USA was studied over an 18‐month period.

Sugar intake, soft drink consumption and body weight among British children: Further analysis of National Diet and Nutrition Survey data with adjustment for under-reporting and physical activity

International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition, 2007
We investigated associations between body mass index (BMI) and intake of non-milk extrinsic sugars (NMES) and caloric soft drinks using weighed 7-day food records, nutrient intakes, BMI measurements and 7-day physical activity (PA) diaries from the UK National Dietary and Nutritional Survey of Young People (n=1,294 aged 7-18 years).
