Size, spillovers and soft budget constraints [PDF]
There is much evidence against the so-called "too big to fail" hypothesis in the case of bailouts to subnational governments. We look at a model where districts of different size provide local public goods with positive spillovers. Matching grants of a central government can induce socially-efficient provision, but districts can still exploit the ...

Constraints on Finite Soft Supersymmetry-Breaking Terms [PDF]
Requiring the soft supersymmetry-breaking (SSB) parameters in finite gauge-Yukawa unified models to be finite up to and including two-loop order, we derive a two-loop sum rule for the soft scalar-masses. It is shown that this sum rule coincides with that

A unidirectional cerebral organoid–organoid neural circuit is established using a microfluidic platform, enabling controlled directional propagation of electrical signals, neuroinflammatory cues, and neurodegenerative disease–related proteins between spatially separated organoids.

Guided by the golden ratio, a class of aperiodic architected metamaterials is introduced to address the intrinsic trade‐off between strength and toughness. By unifying local geometric heterogeneity with global order, the golden‐ratio‐guided aperiodic architecture promotes spatial delocalization of damage tolerence regions, leading to more tortuous ...

Flavour changing neutral currents and CP violating processes in generalized supersymmetric theories
We consider supersymmetric extensions of the standard model with general non-universal soft breaking terms. We analyse in a model-independent way the constraints on these terms at the electroweak energy scale coming from gluino mediated flavour (F ...

Reconfigurable Magnetic Soft Microrobot for Acoustically Triggered Targeted Bacterial Sterilization
Reconfigurable magnetic soft microrobots integrate in situ‐grown piezoelectric zinc oxide nanorods that produce reactive oxygen species upon acoustic excitation. Combining magnetically guided transport with thermally induced planar reconfiguration, the microrobots achieve targeted delivery and enhanced bacterial sterilization through efficient on ...

Gaussian Process Regression with Soft Equality Constraints
This study introduces a novel Gaussian process (GP) regression framework that probabilistically enforces physical constraints, with a particular focus on equality conditions.

Unusual Swelling Behavior of Hydrogels Modified with Spiropyran as Appendage or Crosslinker
Not so innocent after all—spiropyran crosslinkers in methylenebisacrylamide‐crosslinked poly(acrylamide‐co‐acrylic acid) hydrogels increase crosslinking density, but also, counterintuitively, increase swelling. Charge complexation, cooperative chemo‐mechanical effects, and aggregation may explain these observations.

Semiring-Based Soft Constraints [PDF]
The semiring-based formalism to model soft constraint has been introduced in 1995 by Ugo Montanari and the authors of this paper. The idea was to make constraint programming more flexible and widely applicable. We also wanted to define the extension via a general formalism, so that all its instances could inherit its properties and be easily compared ...

Quality over Quantity in Soft Constraints [PDF]
Partial constraint satisfaction and soft constraints enable to deal with over-constrained problems in practice. Constraint relationships have been introduced to provide a qualitative approach to specifying preferences over the constraints that should be satisfied.
