Using Hard Constraints for Representing Soft Constraints [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Most of the current algorithms dedicated to the resolution of over-constrained problems, as PFC-MRDAC, are based on the search for a support for each value of each variable taken independently. The structure of soft constraints is only used to speed-up such a search, but not to globally deduce the existence or the absence of support.

Phenomenological Aspects of Heterotic Orbifold Models at One Loop

open access: yes, 2003
We provide a detailed study of the phenomenology of orbifold compactifications of the heterotic string within the context of supergravity effective theories.

Bio‐Orthogonally Crosslinked Supramolecular Polymer Bottlebrush Hydrogels for Long‐Term 3D Cell Culture

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fibrous benzenetrispeptide (BTP) hydrogels, fabricated via strain‐promoted azide‐alkyne cycloaddition (SPAAC) crosslinking, form robust, bioinert networks. These hydrogels can support 3D cell culture, where cell viability and colony growth depend on the fiber content.

Intuition-guided Reinforcement Learning for Soft Tissue Manipulation with Unknown Constraints

open access: yesCyborg and Bionic Systems
Intraoperative soft tissue manipulation is a critical challenge in autonomous robotic surgery. Furthermore, the intricate in vivo environment surrounding the target soft tissues poses additional hindrances to autonomous robotic decision-making.

Optimized Hybrid Resource Allocation in Wireless Cellular Networks with and without Channel Reassignment

open access: yesJournal of Computer Systems, Networks, and Communications, 2010
In cellular networks, it is important to determine an optimal channel assignment scheme so that the available channels, which are considered as “limited” resources in cellular networks, are used as efficiently as possible.

Spatially Tailorable Liquid Crystalline Elastomer Alignment During Digital Light Process 3D Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, we report the fabrication of 3D printable liquid crystalline elastomer (LCE) structures with spatially tailorable alignment domains within the same layer. This work addresses the long‐standing challenge of preparing complex 3D LCE architectures with patterned functional domains to achieve nonlinear deformations. Fabrication of multi‐domains in 3D

Implicit Frictional Dynamics With Soft Constraints

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics
Dynamics simulation with frictional contacts is important for a wide range of applications, from cloth simulation to object manipulation. Recent methods using smoothed lagged friction forces have enabled robust and differentiable simulation of elastodynamics with friction.

Restricted Bailouts and the Commitment Problem in Federations [PDF]

open access: yes
Standard models of soft budget constraints consider bailouts as pure monetary transfers. However, in practice often additional obligations or restrictions, such as savings goals, are linked to monetary bailouts.

Dense baryonic matter: constraints from recent neutron star observations

open access: yes, 2014
Updated constraints from neutron star masses and radii impose stronger restrictions on the equation of state for baryonic matter at high densities and low temperatures.
