HEER: Hybrid Energy Efficient Reactive Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks

open access: yes, 2013
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) consist of numerous sensors which send sensed data to base station. Energy conservation is an important issue for sensor nodes as they have limited power. Many routing protocols have been proposed earlier for energy ...

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Low-cost, data-efficient, on-device soft sensors for sewer flow monitoring—learning from adjacent water level sensors

open access: yesWater Research X
Flow measurements are critical for sewer monitoring, but direct measurements with flow meters are often expensive due to high sensor costs and frequent sensor maintenance.

Soft Pneumatic Bending Actuator with Integrated Carbon Nanotube Displacement Sensor

open access: yesRobotics, 2016
The excellent compliance and large range of motion of soft actuators controlled by fluid pressure has lead to strong interest in applying devices of this type for biomimetic and human-robot interaction applications. However, in contrast to soft actuators

Determination of RF source power in WPSN using modulated backscattering

open access: yes, 2012
A wireless sensor network (WSN) is a wireless network consisting of spatially distributed autonomous devices using sensors to cooperatively monitor physical or environmental conditions, such as temperature, sound, vibration, pressure, motion or ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

The application of ANFIS prediction models for thermal error compensation on CNC machine tools [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Thermal errors can have significant effects on CNC machine tool accuracy. The errors come from thermal deformations of the machine elements caused by heat sources within the machine structure or from ambient temperature change.

Self-healing sensorized soft robots

open access: yesMaterials Today Electronics, 2022
The lifetime of soft robots is limited by their susceptibility to damage. Recent breakthroughs in healable soft robots have overcome this issue by manufacturing systems from self-healing polymers. However, to operate and recover autonomously, compatible sensors need to be embedded. We show that innovative healable soft sensors to measure strain, force,
