Using seismic isolation columns for retrofitting buildings with soft stories
The Structural Design of Tall and Special Buildings, 2008AbstractBase isolation is known as en effective way to improve structural seismic response and reduce damages that may be caused to structures by earthquakes. The objective of seismic isolation is to decouple the structure from the earthquake motion input, preventing the structure from absorbing the earthquake energy.

Investigation of Soft Story and Weak Story Irregularities on the Structures with Infill Walls
2017In this study, soft story and weak story irregularities defined in the Earthquake Code 2007 were investigated. For this purpose, five different 10-story structures with different geometries and infill walls were analyzed using the Equivalent Seismic Load Method in line with both earthquake directions.

Base Isolation by a Soft First Story with Inclined Columns
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1999An idea of passive base isolation of buildings is explored, using inclined rubber base isolators or inclined “soft” first-story columns. Such a system behaves as a physical pendulum, “pivoted” above center of mass, and is more stable than the standard system.

Seismic Performance Assessment of Soft-Story RC Frame Buildings
2016Soft-story buildings are characterized by an inadequate stiffness or flexibility of the groundfloor, which is less resistant to horizontal seismic forces than the upper storys. On the other hand, such inadequate stiffness causes disproportionaldisplacement focused on that story.
