Microbiota‐driven vaccination in soft ticks: Implications for survival, fitness and reproductive capabilities in Ornithodoros moubata

open access: yesMolecular Ecology
The Ornithodoros moubata (Om) soft tick, a vector for diseases like tick‐borne human relapsing fever and African swine fever, poses challenges to conventional control methods.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Spatial Distribution of Ticks (Arachniada: Argasidae and Ixodidae) and Their Infection Rate to Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Virus in Iran

open access: yesJournal of Arthropod-Borne Diseases, 2021
Background: The Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) is one of the most important arthropod-borne viral diseases with a mortality rate of about 30% among humans.

Advancing Electronic Application of Coordination Solids: Enhancing Electron Transport and Device Integration via Surface‐Mounted MOFs (SURMOFs)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The layer‐by‐layer (LbL) assembly of coordination solids, enabled by the surface‐mounted metal‐organic framework (SURMOF) platform, is on the cusp of generating the organic counterpart of the epitaxy of inorganics. The programmable and sequential SURMOF protocol, optimized by machine learning (ML), is suited for accessing high‐quality thin films of ...

Hard tick species of livestock and their bioecology in Golestan Province, North of Iran [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: A survey on tick species composition was carried out in Golestan Province Iran during year 2010- 2011.The aim was to determine tick species parasitizing domestic ruminants and their seasonal population dynamics. Methods: A total of 124 sheep,

Comparison of synthetic membranes in the development of an in vitro feeding system for Dermanyssus gallinae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Although artificial feeding models for the poultry red mite (Dermanyssus gallinae) most frequently use biological membranes consisting of day-old chick skin, there are ethical considerations associated with the use of skin.

Development of microsatellite markers for the soft tick Ornithodoros phacochoerus [PDF]

open access: goldParasites & Vectors
Abstract Background Soft ticks of the genus Ornithodoros are responsible for the maintenance and transmission of the African swine fever (ASF) virus in the sylvatic and domestic viral cycles in Southern Africa. They are also the main vectors of the Borrelia species causing relapsing fevers.

High‐Concentration Mesogen‐Assisted Exfoliation of Low‐Dimensional Nanomaterials for Achieving Ultralow‐Temperature Actuations of Liquid Crystal Elastomers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Most matter is nominally frozen in the polar regions or space, and liquid crystal materials are no exception. Consequently, soft actuators, including liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs), are inoperative under such extreme cold in response to stimuli, as their motion relies on mechanical deformation.

Suitable habitats for Palearctic Ornithodoros soft ticks

open access: green, 2017
Ticks are economically and medically important due to injuries to livestock directly caused by their bite and their ability to transmit pathogens to humans and animals. While hard ticks (Ixodidae) have been extensively studied, the ability of soft ticks (Argasidae) to transmit pathogens to humans and domestic animals remains underestimated (Gray ...

pH‐Tunable Material Properties of Glycine‐Rich Condensates from Tick Bioadhesive

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work studies the influence of pH on the phase separation behavior of a disordered glycine‐rich protein found in tick bioadhesive. The results show profound impact on the propensity of coacervation, condensate microstructure and viscosity, amphiphilicity of the peptides, and effective encapsulation of therapeutic molecules.
