Routine Testing of Bitumen Binders

open access: yesCivil and Environmental Engineering, 2017
The quality of bituminous binders used in the construction and maintenance of road surfaces is currently assessed by empirical testing based on obtaining one value for specific boundary conditions, which were designed about 100 years ago. Basic empirical

Effect of M-resin-based Stabilizer on the Performance of SBS Modified Asphalt

open access: yesMedžiagotyra, 2022
Industrial solid waste M-resin (MR) contains high sulfur content which was difficult to be comprehensively utilized. According to the vulcanization reaction mechanism, MR was used as vulcanizing agent, nano zinc oxide (ZnO) as an activator, tetramethyl ...

Sustainable production of WMA with pine gum wax modification

open access: yesJournal of Innovative Transportation
Warm mix asphalt (WMA) (S®-WMA) produced with Sasobit® (S®), a widely used organic admixture, shows a significant increase in softening point value and a decrease in stripping resistance.

Phase Separation Study on the Storage of Technically Specification Natural Rubber Modified Bitumen

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Overloading and climate change are often problems in pavement structures. For this reason, hard asphalt binders have high softening points, are elastic, and have good adhesion, which is needed to improve pavement performance.

Estimating Softening Point of Cheeses

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 1999
Abstract Two objective test methods for determining the softening point of cheeses, accounting for both rheological and thermal characteristics, were developed. An apparatus operated on modified squeeze-flow configuration for evaluating softening and flow characteristics of cheeses was used to determine the softening point of cheeses.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

The crystal structure of the Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase BBE22 resolves a long‐standing annotation error

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase (PncA/BBE22) reveals the correct full‐length protein initiated from a non‐canonical AUU start codon. The structure validates previous biochemical findings and resolves a long‐standing annotation error, demonstrating that the truncated database sequence is structurally incompatible with the ...
