Rationalisation of Vicat softening point measurements

open access: yesPolymer Testing, 1990
Abstract The utility of the Vicat softening point is rationalised one step further. Light is thrown on Vicat measurements and they are interpreted from a qualitative viewpoint; it is stated that the Vicat softening point is nothing but a temperature at which the modulus has reached a particular level.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Visco-elastic regularization and strain softening [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In this paper it is intended to verify the capacity of regularization of the numerical solution of an elasto-plastic problem with linear strain softening. The finite element method with a displacement approach is used.

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

Anticancer sensitivities and biological characteristics of HCT116 cells resistant to the selective poly(ADP‐ribose) glycohydrolase inhibitor

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We analyzed alterations of PAR metabolism‐related proteins in PARG inhibitor‐resistant HCT116RPDD cells. Although PARG levels remained unchanged, HCT116RPDD cells exhibited reduced PARP1 and ARH3 expression and elevated PAR levels. Interestingly, HCT116RPDD cells exhibited slightly elevated intracellular NAD+/NADH and ATP levels. Our findings suggest a

Preparation and Properties of Polylactic Acid/Modified Starch/POE Degradation Materials

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Polylactic acid (PLA) / polyolefin elastomer (POE) / modified starch composites were prepared by melt blending. The composites were characterized by softening point, polarizing microscope, melt flow rate, tensile strength and degradation properties.

Effects of the softening point of hydrophobic polymers on the salt-based filler used in antifreeze asphalt concretes

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2021
In order to investigate the effect of hydrophobic polymer softening points on salt-based fillers used in antifreeze asphalt concretes (AFACs), moisture absorption, salt-release property and thermal stability were studied and the performance of antifreeze

Polar phonons and intrinsic dielectric response of the ferromagnetic insulating spinel CdCr$_2$S$_4$ from first principles

open access: yes, 2005
We have studied the dielectric properties of the ferromagnetic spinel CdCr$_2$S$_4$ from first principles. Zone-center phonons and Born effective charges were calculated by frozen-phonon and Berry phase techniques within LSDA+U. We find that all infrared-

Anisotropic softening of collective charge modes in the vicinity of critical doping in a doped Mott insulator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Momentum resolved inelastic resonant x-ray scattering is used to map the evolution of charge excitations over a large range of energies, momenta and doping levels in the electron doped Mott insulator class Nd$_{2-x}$Ce$_x$CuO$_4$.
