Independent accreditation for software engineering programs?

Proceedings 14th Conference on Software Engineering Education and Training. 'In search of a software engineering profession' (Cat. No.PR01059), 2002
Professional societies in IT and accreditation bodies of engineering and computer science may be in dispute while international recognition of professionals is necessary. Can a possibly independent accreditation body, aligned with the proposed IFIP Standard on IT Professionalism, help the software engineering profession?.

Developing an accredited software engineering program

IEEE Software, 1997
In 1996, the Institution of Engineers, Australia, granted full accreditation to the University of Melbourne's undergraduate program in software engineering. The authors, from the University's Department of Computer Science, describe their experiences developing the program and undergoing the accreditation process.

An undergraduate software engineering program...within electrical engineering

FIE '98. 28th Annual Frontiers in Education Conference. Moving from 'Teacher-Centered' to 'Learner-Centered' Education. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.98CH36214), 2002
For the past two years, the Department of Electrical Engineering has offered a specialty within electrical engineering to help prepare graduates for careers in embedded software engineering. This program offers a unique blend of software science and engineering within an ABET-accredited electrical engineering program.

Software engineering programs are not computer science programs

IEEE Software, 1999
Software Engineering programs have become a source of contention in many universities. Computer Science departments, many of which have used that phrase to describe individual courses for decades, claim SE as part of their discipline. Yet some engineering faculties claim it as a new specialty among the engineering disciplines.

Reverse software engineering of concurrent programs

Proceedings of the 5th Jerusalem Conference on Information Technology, 1990. 'Next Decade in Information Technology', 2002
The development of a system for reverse software engineering of real-time programs is described. It is addressed specifically to the US Navy's modernization of tactical and strategic systems. The approach is based on completely automatic translation from CMS-2 into a user-oriented nonprocedural specification language called MODEL.

Literate programming: a software engineering perspective

Proceedings Software Education Conference (SRIG-ET'94), 2002
Initial impressions of literate programming tend to the view that this is the software equivalent of the "Faberge egg": ornate beyond all practical uses. However, recent advances in the field have produced tools that are less ornate, easy to use and eminently practical.

An integrated software engineering workshops program

FIE '98. 28th Annual Frontiers in Education Conference. Moving from 'Teacher-Centered' to 'Learner-Centered' Education. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.98CH36214), 2002
Workshops are a fundamental part of software engineering education, as they give practical training in principles, methods and procedures under similar conditions to real software products development. Students acquire the necessary experience in team dynamics, management and leadership techniques; and require them to improve their report writing and ...

RIT's BS program in software engineering

ACM SIGSOFT Software Engineering Notes, 1999
In the fall of 1996, the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) enrolled the first students in its undergraduate software engineering program. To the best of our knowledge, this was the first program in the U.S. leading to a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering.

Empirical software engineering for agent programming

Proceedings of the 2nd edition on Programming systems, languages and applications based on actors, agents, and decentralized control abstractions, 2012
Empirical software engineering is a branch of software engineering in which empirical methods are used to evaluate and develop tools, languages and techniques. In this position paper we argue for the use of empirical methods to advance the area of agent programming.
