Assessing software maintainability
Communications of the ACM, 1984How easy is it to maintain a program? To a large extent, that depends on how difficult the program is to understand. A technique to measure program difficulty yields encouraging results.

2020 IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance and Evolution (ICSME), 2020
Before controlling the quality of software systems, we need to assess it. In the case of maintainability, this often happens with manual expert reviews. Current automatic approaches have received criticism because their results often do not reflect the opinion of experts or are biased towards a small group of experts.

Maintaining the software process
Proceedings Conference on Software Maintenance 1992, 2003The software process movement is described. Organization-wide software processes and the maintenance of defined software processes are considered. It is suggested that the software process movement will find the software maintenance community directly in its mainstream. Even more important, the maintenance community is about to face a double challenge.

Recording software design processes for maintaining the software
Proceedings of 1993 IEEE 17th International Computer Software and Applications Conference COMPSAC '93, 2002This paper proposes a method of supporting software change propagation analysis using a recorded software design rationale. This paper discusses recording costs, the usage and effectiveness of the recorded information for change propagation analysis, which other papers don't.

Software Maintainability Estimation in Agile Software Development
International Journal of Open Source Software and Processes, 2018Agile methodologies have gained wide acceptance for developing high-quality products with a quick and flexible approach. However, until now, the quality of the agile process has not been validated quantitatively. Quality being important for the software system, there is a need for measurement. Estimating different quality factors will lead to a quality

A software maintainability evaluation methodology
2nd Computers in Aerospace Conference, 1979This paper describes a conceptual framework of software maintainability and an implemented procedure for evaluating a program's documentation and source code for maintainability characteristics. The evaluation procedure includes use of closed-form questionnaires completed by a group of evaluators.

Designing Ada software for maintainability
Proceedings. Conference on Software Maintenance, 1988., 1988A panel discussion is presented on some of the design methods that can be used to support Ada software maintainability. It is noted that design documentation often does not accurately reflect the code, and those most familiar with the code's structure may not be available for consultation.

Designing for increased software maintainability
1997 Proceedings International Conference on Software Maintenance, 1997The recording and management of design rationales and design decisions are important issues in achieving better support for software maintenance. In the context of existing work on design rationale models, this paper introduces an approach to the integration of system design, design decisions and design rationales and the formalisation of design ...

The application of software maintainability models in industrial software systems
Journal of Systems and Software, 1995Abstract The impact of software maintainability has become one of the most important aspects of past, present, and future software systems. Tools and models that can measure software maintainability will play an increasingly important role in the software industry.
