Recent advances of PVA-based hydrogels in cartilage repair application

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
Articular cartilage is critical for knee joint motion as a connective tissue to disperse loads and resist high-stress loadings. However, due to the lack of vascular, neural, and lymphatic tissues, the self-repair capacity of cartilage is fairly poor ...

Heat Transfer Enhancement of Controllable Aspect Ratio Fractal Channel

open access: yesMicromachines, 2023
Thermal management technology is a major challenge in high-end equipment. The demand for high-efficiency heat sinks has increased. In this study, a controllable aspect ratio (AR) fractal channel (CARFC) heat sink is proposed to enhance thermal ...

The Reformulation-Optimization Software Engine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Most optimization software performs numerical computation, in the sense that the main interest is to find numerical values to assign to the decision variables, e.g. a solution to an optimization problem. In mathematical programming, however, a considerable amount of symbolic transformation is essential to solving difficult optimization problems, e.g ...

Optimization of Software Estimation Models

open access: yesProceedings of the 14th International Conference on Software Technologies, 2019
In software engineering, estimations are frequently used to determine expected but yet unknown properties of software development processes or the developed systems, such as costs, time, number of developers, efforts, sizes, and complexities. Plenty of estimation models exist, but it is hard to compare and improve them as software technologies evolve ...

Risk Assessment Framework for Structural Failures of Polar Ship Under Ice Loads

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
For polar ships, navigation in ice-covered regions can lead to high risk to structural safety. To study the structural risk induced by ice loads, a risk assessment framework is proposed based on a probabilistic analysis.

Effect of Cr3+ Doping on Magnetic Properties of Zn-Mg Ferrite Nanoparticles

open access: yesMagnetochemistry, 2023
Zn0.6Mg0.4CrxFe2−xO4 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.4) nanoparticles were synthesized using a hydrothermal technique. The obtained magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) exhibited a spinel structure, where the lattice constant decreased with the Cr3+ ion content.

Software Optimization of Decorrelation Module [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
This paper investigates software optimization of special multiplication. In particular we concentrate on ax+b mod 264 +13 mod 264 which is the bottleneck operation in the DFC cipher. We show that we can take advantage of the language and architecture properties in order to get efficient implementations.

Determining Parental Factors for Clinical Trial Attrition in Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background/Objectives Despite high enrollment rates on Children's Oncology Group (COG) protocols, attrition after initial consent is challenging, introducing bias and prolonging trial completion. While adult oncology literature has identified predictors of withdrawal, little is known about caregiver decision‐making for child participation in ...

Effectiveness of Resistance Intradialytic Exercise Compared to Aerobic Intradialytic Exercise for Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis commonly experience reduced physical function, fatigue, poor sleep quality, and impaired health‐related quality of life. Intradialytic exercise has been proposed as a non‐pharmacological strategy to improve these outcomes.
