The anabolic steroid stanozolol is a potent inhibitor of human MutT homolog 1
MutT homolog 1 (MTH1) is a member of the NUDIX superfamily of enzymes and is an anticancer drug target. We show that stanozolol (Stz), an anabolic steroid, is an unexpected nanomolar inhibitor of MTH1. The X‐ray crystal structure of the human MTH1–Stz complex reveals a unique binding scaffold that could be utilized for future inhibitor development ...

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a genetic disease affecting motor neurons. Individuals with SMA experience mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of an antioxidant and neuroprotective substance, ergothioneine (ERGO), on an SMNΔ7 mouse model of SMA.

Software Testing in Small IT Companies: A (not only) South African Problem
Small software companies make for the majority of software companies around the world, but their software development processes are often not as clearly defined and structured as in their larger counterparts. Especially the test process is often the most

We investigated the seeded assembly of 0N3R tau and two variants, C322A and C322S, designed to model the mutation landscape at residue 322, using Alzheimer's disease brain homogenates in a real‐time quaking‐induced conversion (RT‐QuIC) assay. The C322A variant formed filaments that partially resembled the paired helical filament (PHF) structure ...

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is of huge importance, resulting in over 1 million deaths each year. Here, we describe how a new drug, enmetazobactam, designed to help fight resistant bacterial diseases, inhibits a key enzyme (GES‐1) responsible for AMR. Our data show it is a more potent inhibitor than the related tazobactam, with high‐level computation

Mutations in the C9orf72 gene represent the most common genetic cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a fatal neurodegenerative disease. Using patient‐derived neurons and C. elegans models, we find that the nucleoporin Nup107 is dysregulated in C9orf72‐associated ALS. Conversely, reducing Nup107 levels mitigates disease‐related changes.

Software quality management and software process improvement in Denmark [PDF]
The software business is a fast growing industry sector and lack of quality has a significant consequence for society and economy. However, reports about unfinished development projects, project overrruns and system and software failures are still the rule. Software quality management (SQM) standards and software process improvement (SPI) methodologies
