Standards-software reliability handbook: achieving reliable software
Computer, 1992The results to date of a three-year research effort on software reliability engineering sponsored by the American Institute of Astronautics and Aeronautics (AIAA) are discussed. After a standard for recommended practice for software reliability estimation was approved by the AIAA, a blue-ribbon panel of industry experts was convened to consider the ...

Predicting software reliability
Computer, 1996Critical business applications require reliable software, but developing reliable software is one of the most difficult problems facing the software industry. After the software is shipped, software vendors receive customer feedback about software reliability.

Forecasting software reliability
1991Computer software fails because of the presence of intellectual faults, ranging from simple coding faults to fundamental design faults. In principle, such faults can be permanently removed when they are detected by failure of the software. Then the software will exhibit reliability growth.

Software reliability measurement
Journal of Systems and Software, 1979The quantification of software reliability is needed for the system engineering of products involving computer programs and the scheduling and monitoring of software development. It is also valuable for the comparative evaluation of the effectiveness of various design, coding, testing, and documentation techniques.

The requirement for high reliability is no longer restricted to a few specialized and proven domains. Instead, ever more functions whose failure can hurt humans and damage property are cropping up in new areas. Avoiding problems and catastrophes in the new software reliability landscape is possible but won't be easy.

Proceedings of 1993 IEEE International Symposium on Software Reliability Engineering, 2002
Software reliability engineering is not only the use of software reliability models and similar techniques, it is the use of sensible engineering principles with cost/benefit analysis throughout the software life cycle to obtain reliable software. The need to have a comprehensive view on software development to engineer reliable software is emphasized.

On the Reliability of Software Piracy Statistics
2010 43rd Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 2010The Business Software Alliance (BSA) changed its consultant and methodology for measurement of software piracy in 2002-2003. Based on a review of the methodology and empirical analysis, I conclude that the change had systematic effects on published piracy rates.

Software development for reliable software systems
Journal of Systems and Software, 1983The process of software development has a major influence on the reliability of a software system. The reliability of a software system can be improved by eliminating all the errors that occur during its development. This paper presents, from a tutorial point of view, a methodology of software development that can minimize the number of errors in a ...

On the role of software reliability in software engineering
2005We place reliability in the context of other relevant software qualities and try to define it rigorously. Then we discuss two complementary approaches to reliability: the constructive approach, which tries to produce a-priori reliable software, and the analytic approach, which tries to measure reliability by inspecting software a-posteriori, after its ...
