Effect of soil aggregation on the biodegradation of phenanthrene aged in soil
Environmental Pollution, 2003A study was conducted to determine the possible role of soil aggregates in the sequestration of phenanthrene and thus in the declined biodegradation of the hydrocarbon. Phenanthrene aged in Lima loam (2-mm aggregates) showed declined biodegradation with time of aging to the test bacterium P5-2 capable of using sorbed phenanthrene.

BRITTLE FRACTURE OF SOIL AGGREGATES AND THE COMPACTION OF AGGREGATE BEDS
Journal of Soil Science, 1979Summary A statistical theory is developed for the brittle fracture of soil aggregates. Fracture is assumed to depend on the flaws, such as cracks and holes, within the aggregates, the weakest flaw limiting strength. An equation known as the third asymptote distribution of smallest values gives the distribution of these weakest flaws.
