Assessing soil aggregate stability with mobile phones

<p>A new methodology for the assessment of soil slaking using a mobile app named SLAKES was developed. The app uses an image recognition algorithm that measures the increasing area of soil aggregates immersed in water at regular intervals over a 10 minutes period.

Effect of aggregate stability on soil compaction

Abstract Investigations of three differently textured and structured soils showed that soil compaction is a function of texture, structure, matric water potential and type and intensity of loading. Time-dependent consolidation and shear experiments revealed that fine-textured soil is more compressible than heavier soil.
