The impact of soil acidification on cementing substances and aggregate stability

open access: yesPLOS ONE
The excessive utilization of chemical fertilizers, particularly nitrogen fertilizers, is leading to decline in the pH level of the black soil in Jilin Province. Acidification of black soil leads to reduced salt base saturation, decreased organic matter content, and increased soil degradation, which, in turn, leads to diminshed aggregate stability and ...

Optimal Grazing Exclusion Duration to Enhance Soil Carbon Sequestration in Degraded Grasslands

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Across China, grazing exclusion reaches the national mean soil organic carbon recovery benchmark sooner in high‐MAP regions (> 500 mm), but recovery is much slower where MAP < 300 mm. Scaling this strategy to 70% of China's degraded grasslands would sequester about 1.52 Pg of soil carbon over 10 years—roughly 17% of annual global fossil‐fuel emissions.

Long-Term Organic Fertilization and Straw Return Affect Shajiang Black Soil (Vertisol) Nutrient Availability, Aggregate Stability, and Crop Yield with the Winter Wheat–Summer Maize Double-Cropping System in Northern China

open access: yesAgronomy
Long-term fertilization affects soil nutrient levels and aggregate stability, eventually altering crop yield. However, their responses to organic fertilizer application and straw returning are still unclear, particularly as the contributions of soil ...

Auswirkungen zweijähriger Düngung mit NAWARO-Biogasgülle auf chemische und physikalische Bodeneigenschaften [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Using biomass from intercrops as feedstock for biogas production makes it possible to produce renewable energy without compromising food production. In order that using intercrops for biogas and fertilizing with liquid digestate is sustainable, it must ...

Nanomedicine Meets Immunotherapy: Advancing Adoptive Cell Therapy with Nanoparticles in the Treatment of Cancer with Sustainability Perspectives

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review surveys nanoparticle‐based strategies to enhance adoptive cell therapy, particularly CAR‐T cell approaches, in solid tumor treatment. It describes how nanoparticles can improve tumor immunogenicity and T‐cell infiltration while reducing toxicity, and how they enable in vivo CAR‐T cell generation.

The main causes of the variation in the soil aggregate proportion and stability along gradient of natural forests in the outer Western Carpathians, Czech Republic

open access: yesGeoderma
In soils, the proportion and stability of aggregates tends to differ with local relief and/or plant cover. In this study, we assess the dependence of forest soil aggregation on physical, physicochemical and (bio)chemical properties in a) topsoil and ...

ML Workflows for Screening Degradation‐Relevant Properties of Forever Chemicals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The environmental persistence of per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) necessitates efficient remediation strategies. This study presents physics‐informed machine learning workflows that accurately predict critical degradation properties, including bond dissociation energies and polarizability.

Fungal-mediated soil aggregation as a mechanism for carbon stabilization

open access: yesThe ISME Journal
Abstract Soils can potentially be turned into net carbon sinks for atmospheric carbon to offset anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. Occlusion of soil organic carbon in soil aggregates is a key mechanism, which temporarily protects it from decomposition by soil organisms. Filamentous fungi are recognized for their positive role in the

Programmable Semi‐Interpenetrating Living Materials With Robust Stability for Versatile Bioremediation and Biotherapeutics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A semi‐interpenetrating engineered living material (sIHSELM), fabricated via thermosensitive hydroxybutyl chitosan and covalent protein self‐assembly, demonstrates exceptional mechanical properties and environmental stability. Shielding bacteria from harsh conditions, sIHSELM exhibits remarkable efficacy in ulcerative colitis treatment and pollutants ...
