Soil amendments effects on radiocesium translocation in forest soils

Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2016
We conducted an experiment to investigate the potential of phytoremediation by soil amendments in a forest area. To desorb radiocesium (137Cs) from variable charges in the soil, ammonium sulfate (NH4+) and elemental sulfur (S) (which decrease soil pH) were applied to forest soil collected from contaminated area at a rate of 40 and 80 g/m2, respectively.

Phosphorus Leaching from Biosolids‐Amended Sandy Soils

Journal of Environmental Quality, 2002
ABSTRACTIncreasing emphasis on phosphorus (P)‐based nutrient management underscores the need to understand P behavior in soils amended with biosolids and manures. Laboratory and greenhouse column studies characterized P forms and leachability of eight biosolids products, chicken manure (CM), and commercial fertilizer (triple superphosphate, TSP ...

The effect of stabilization on the utilization of municipal sewage sludge as a soil amendment.

Waste Management, 2019
This study assesses the potential use of different types of stabilized sewage sludge as a soil amendment by considering their physicochemical characteristics, nutritional status, and their trace metal and radionuclide content. The concentrations of trace

Building soil fertility using soil amendments

2014
Soil amendments are organic and inorganic materials added to soil to improve it quality and chemistry for plants growth. Slag amendment is a material rich in silicon produced from manufactured steel. Effective utilization of organic amendments and slag builds soil fertility, improves plants resistance against disease, and it is important for ...

Soil Amendments for Sustainability

2018
This book focuses on the pros and cons of amendment materials to restore the functioning of soil resources. It presents a holistic overview on affected land revitalization, clean up and revegetation using these amendments that could be implemented in the long term management of the soil-plant-atmosphereanimal continuum.

Phosphorous Retention and Release by Sludge-Derived Hydrochar for Potential Use as a Soil Amendment.

Journal of Environmental Quality, 2019
To solve both the problems of P deficiency in arable soil and excessive waste sludge disposal, we evaluated hydrothermal carbonization of sludge with the aim of recycling sludge P resources for soil amendment.

Soil amendments and phosphate availability

Proceedings / Indian Academy of Sciences, 1954
In order to assess the efficiency of different P-carriers it is necessary to know not only how it affects the total supply of available phosphate but also the rate at which the phosphate is released in an available form for the use of the plants. On the basis of the above two factors the results of these studies may now be summarised as under:- From ...

Soil biological amendments for soil health

Open Access Government
Soil biological amendments for soil health Lynette Abbott and Bede Mickan from The University of Western Australia, provide insights into research on enhancing soil health using biological amendments. Healthy soils support resilient farming systems. Communities of soil organisms provide the backbone of soil health, and their abundance,
