The numerical modelling of rockbolts in geomechanics by finite element methods

open access: yes, 1998
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University, 15/03/1999.In tunnel excavation, the use of rockbolts has long been a popular means of reinforcement in rock masses to prevent the rock opening from caving

Numerical Investigation of Methane Transport Within and Around Evolving Cracks

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
A validated model shows that natural gas leakage induces soil deformation and forms three key cracks. When diffusion is low, methane moves mainly along the primary crack, demonstrating how natural fractures reshape pathways and significantly enhance methane migration.

Marine Macroalgae as a Safe Healthy Food While Meeting Food Security Challenges Arising From Climate Changes

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Planned harvesting and processing of marine macroalgae could meet future global food needs and mitigate fuel‐originated carbon dioxide responsible for climate change. Microalgal foods are nutritious and safe. The utilization of macroalgae would avoid environmental problems arising from the release of overgrowing macroalgae caused by heatwaves, which ...

Determination of hydraulic conductivity of fractured rock masses: A case study for a rock cavern project in Singapore

open access: yes, 2015
In order to reduce the risk associated with water seepage in an underground rock cavern project in Singapore, a reliable hydro-geological model should be established based on the in situ investigation data.

Experimental study of polyurethane foam reinforced soil used as a rock-like material

open access: yes, 2015
In this study, polyurethane foam type thermoset polymerizing, due to chemical reaction between its liquid ingredients, was tested as binder after solidifying and then a rock-like material mixing with a sandy silt type soil was prepared.
